[opensuse] Project management software question for project managers

I am looking for project management software I can install on my Suse box. Alas, there are quite a number of prducts that claim to be suitable project management products, but I am hoping to obtain a little help separating the wheat from the chaffe. Basically, when I open the project management software, I want to be able to choose from among a number of projects that are under way, and then see the relation between a client's wish list and the functional requirements specs, and then how these specs relate to the UML diagrams that have been created, and from there, what tasks have been defined for each requirement and the identity of all persons involved, the developers and their managers, and the person who designed the code that supports the requirement. And with that, I want to be able to see the project's timeline, the related bugs, &c. I would even want to be able to open the source code files and examine the code that was actually written. Here is my wish list: 1) a web application that stores data in either PostgreSQL or MySQL. 2) easy integration with UML tool (or has it's own UML tool that supports round trip engineering) 3) resource management (e.g. computers, and development tools, that can be used, personelle assigned to each task) 4) documentation of relation between functional requirements specs to specific tasks and specific unit and integration tests. 5) time/effort tracking 6) bug tracking, including data relating the existance of the bug, and effort required to fix it, to the person who wrote the original code, the person who supervised him or her, and the person who designed the 'feature' in question, the time taken to complete the original task, and the technologies used (to imprrove accountability as well as to determine retraining and continuing education needs (people aren't disposable, so instead of taking a harsh aproach to problems identified, I prefer to use education as a corrective, but I can't design corrective instruction without knowing precisely what the need is). I also need to know if a developer has a higher than normal bug rate simply because he doesn't take enough time to ensure the job is done right, or because I haven't adequately trained him, or because of a poor choice of tools, or somethng else that may be my fault. 7) use of task effort tracking history to generate provisional effort/cost estimates from new project's functional requirements 8) easy integration with open source ERP products like OFBiz (which may make trakcing resources and manpower easier, as well as connect real production data to the enterprise's accounting systems) 9) easy integration with CMS products, like Wordpress (especally for production documentation, includng degin documentation and user guides and reference manuals) 10) easy integration with verion control systems such as subversion. If there is a decent product that supports all of this, great (and language used to implement it doesn't matter), but if I have to write code to add missing requirements, then I am limited to those implemented using Perl or Java (and running on Tomcat). I don't know PHP well enough, and I don't know Ruby at all; and I really don't want to think about implementing this sort of thing in C++ (though I could if absolutely necessary). If you have project management experience, and use tools that are available for Suse Linux, what software product(s) did you use, and with what result? While I await relies, I will continue to review web documentation for those products I have found so far, to see if any of them are a) suitable for use in production and b) to see to what extent they support the features I am after. I have seen a number of products so far in my search, that deserve to be nameless, because they provide no way to relate cost estimates to one's team's track record, or to the details of the design, and seem satisfied with production of a pretty gantt chart (which is why I have formed the view that there is a whole lots of chaffe in the set of applications that call themselves project menement software - I have yet to find anything that really has the potential of being labelled wheat). [SLE] RealPlayer G2 on SuSe 6.2

Yesterday, I finally got sound going on my Linux setup. I downloaded RealPlayer G2 and it worked beautifully. Today, RealPlayer run but no sound coming out. All other sound functions still work. I can still play my CD, have system sound BUT no sound when I run RealPlayer. /var/log/message said kernel: Sound: DMA (output) timed out - IRQ/DRQ config error? but KDE sound still work. I have re-installed RealPlayer 3 times now, still no sound when I run the RealPlayer. Any help is appreciated. SuSE Tumbleweed with newest updates and upgrades. 5.7.1-1-default #1 SMP Wed Jun 10 11:53:46 UTC 2020 (6a549f6) x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux Just recently started to give error messages when plugging in e.g. USB Headsets, Arduino Uno into some Exsys USB 3.0 hub. This was working fine in Tumbleweed before and in e.g. SuSE 13.1. The error message is e.g.: [...]usb 2-1.4.3: new full-speed USB device number 10 using xhci_hcd [...]usb 2-1.4.3: New USB device found, idVendor=2341, idProduct=0043, bcdDevice= 0.01 [...]usb 2-1.4.3: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=220 [...]usb 2-1.4.3: Manufacturer: Arduino (www.arduino.cc) ...serialnumber... [...]kernel: usb 2-1.4.3: Not enough bandwidth for new device state. [...]kernel: usb 2-1.4.3: can't set config #1, error -28 This error message started on Jun 04, after making an update (zypper up) on June 3rd. A USB3.0 stick is working on the Exsys Hub. The Arduino is working on some other USB 3.0 Port of another hub. Regression? Any hints how to get this away? [opensuse] Kernel compilation the openSUSE way?

I usually take the newest openSUSE kernel (from repository Kernel_stable). But since some month I have a DVB T2 HD card, which requires a patch (see https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=194171). So I need to compile kernels myself. I have a working compilation path. But the current path has 12 steps! It takes some time. I wonder, why it is so complicated to configure, compile and install a Kernel under openSUSE. Is there a better/easier/automated way to configure, compile and install a Kernel under openSUSE? I know this blog article. But the article uses Vanilla kernels and also needs 6 steps. With additional patches (4 steps), third-party modules (2 steps) and cleanup (1 step) the article would also need 13 steps: Compiling the Linux Kernel, the SUSE way https://www.suse.com/communities/blog/compiling-de-linux-kernel-suse-way/ This is my Kernel configuration, compilation and installation path: 1. Upgrade from Leap 15.1 to 15.2 Desktop Failure

Greetings, Just did an upgrade from my stable Leap 15.1 install to 15.2. I downloaded the DVD and did the upgrade from booting that. It asked me if I wanted to used the online repos as I have an internet connection so I said OK. Everything seemed to go well and booting into my KDE desktop. But clicking the gecko start menu gives an error. "Error loading QML file:file///sur/share/plasma/plasmoids/org.kde.plasma.kicker/contents/ui/main.qml:27:1: module "org.kde.plasma.private.kicker: is not installed" The system is running and I see my desktop widgets doing their thing. But I can't do anything. I can get to tty1 and login as root but I don't know what to do from there. I tried running yast in tty1 but get errors when I try software management. This system was first installed with Leap 15.0, upgraded to 15.1, now to a partially broken 15.2. Any suggestions most welcome. Jim F

Some apps suddenly take a long time to start (OpenSUSE 15.2, XFCE4)

Hi, One of the recent patches to OpenSUSE 15.2 introduced a bug. The effect is that some apps suddenly take 5-10 seconds to start instead of showing up instantly as before. Afterwards, they work smoothly. Affected apps are: - keepassxc-2.6.2-lp152.3.9.1.x86_64 - virtualbox-qt-6.1.16-lp152.2.8.1.x86_64 The bug seems to be this one: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/dbus/+bug/1852016 When using strace, I noticed that the programs hang polling Unix sockets like /tmp/.X11-unix/X0 or /run/user/1000/bus. I couldn't find a related bug in openSUSE. The workaround is to start the app from the command line using dbus-launch: dbus-launch keepassxc I noticed that the first time in the middle of December, certainly before the 26th. I've attached the entire update history. In the history, I see a new version of Qt 5, glib 2, nvidia-glG05 460.27, aaa_base 84.87. There are no updates to systemd or dbus itself. Support for HEIC files

I got some photos in HEIC format (which appears to be common in the Apple world) and ... nothing I had on my notebook could open them. GIMP seems to happily handle those. eog (GNOME image viewer) and magick (ImageMagick) - no luck. libheif1-1.10.0-11.1.x86_64 is installed on this Tumbleweed system. -> How do we get eog to process HEIC images? -> How do we get magick to process HEIC images? -> Corollary: is there some other tool that converts those to JPEG/PNG? In order to provide "umlauts" (ok, an European problem :-)) I need the package libidn- devel at compile time _and_ at runtime. I found the reason now - but I do not know how to circumvent this and whether or not this is my error or a more basic packaging error. Kernel 4.x

Hello, I have an old Dell E521 (circa 2007) computer that I took out of storage. It has an nvidia geforce 8400 video card. I installed opensuse Leap 15.2 KDE, but the G03 driver isn't available for the stock 5.3 kernel. It's using the nouveau driver but that causes some weird screen blanking (even with XRenderer), random screen corruption and system freezes. I have used opensuse on it 10.0-11.3. Been so long I forget, but it has always been suse/opensuse. Is there a repo that I can use to downgrade the kernel to 4.3 (or any 4.x) that I can use with 15.2? I know it's a weird question, but I figure the machine is so old that it wouldn't benefit from any kernel after 4.x any way. Thanks. Alvin

grub boot from raid1 question

Hello: I would like to set up a Leap 15.1 system that boots from a md raid1 array. I have a sample configuration from a working debian system that boots from raid1 array. However there are 2 things in the sample configuration I don't understand. It seems that grub sets the root device using the array's uuid (mduuid). Than it searches for file-system id, and sets the root to that file system. Isn't it enough to set the root using only one of these methods? Either by mduuid or by fs-uuid? Is it necessary to use both? What occurs if the the fs-uuid of the mduuid device's file system is not equal to the one given in the search command? 2. insmod part_msdos command is given 2 times. Due to a user report about failing checksums, I was just testing one of our mirrors and wanted to compare to my own - on http://opensuse.c3sl.ufbr.br, I was only offered the license in Russian. on my own copy (http://mirror.hostsuisse.com/opensuse), I am offered French, German, Greek, Persian, Russian and Spanish - but not English ?? Also, I don't recall having had to accept the license by ticking a box ? Although that might be my memory failing. I am not a regular TW user, hence my perplexion. -- Per Jessen, Zürich (1.6°C)

Hello, I'm interested in support for the r8125 driver in the official kernel. What are the plans for this? Currently, I'm using the package found here: https://build.opensuse.org/package/show/home:Sauerland/r8125 I just unpacked the module and copied it to /lib/modules/*/weak-updates/updates/, ran depmod -a and it worked since Nov, 24th. Dear listmembers, after having struggeled for quite a while with unstable bluetooth connections / missing possibility to set the audio mode to a2dp I finally upgraded to 15.2. I had tested the "live" version of it beforehand and there it seemed to work. But after completion of the upgrade - no a2dp profile again. Searching on the net suggests many different solutions, I tested them, it failed. Finally it came to my mind what is different between the "live" system booted from a stick and my "regular" installation: - I have two KDE - session in parallel, one on tty7, the other one on tty8, - the "live" system has only one KDE - session. after not logging in to the second session - whops, a2dp is there, flawlessly, just like someone would expect. Now I am asking myself what is going wrong here, apparently two instances of the same KDE - bluetooth - configurations are "fighting" each other causing performance issues (and stability problems ...). As I would think that having two sessions in parallel on one server is nothing "out of scope" I wonder whether or not I should rise a bug report pointing to this - any opinions? Carlos, Just a follow up to the long thread earlier where you moved from Tbird 68 - 78 and went through the enigmail loss and migration to GPG. Did it all work out? Are you using a master-password to prevent your private keys from being stored unencrypted under your ~/.thunderbird directory? Do you have to enter the master password for every message? Still on 68 and will have time over the break to be tormented with it. Any pointers not in the last thread you found -- would be welcomed :p -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E.

location of yast saved rpm files

Hello: Most I use yast software manager to install/remove packages. I always set software manager to keep downloaded/installed packages. Currently I use openSUSE Leap 15.1. I found that the downloaded rpm files are installed in /var/cache/zypp/packages/<dir> where <dir> is one of openSUSE_Leap_15.1 openSUSE_Leap_15.1_1 openSUSE-Leap-15.1-1 openSUSE_Leap_15.1_10 openSUSE_Leap_15.1_11 openSUSE_Leap_15.1_2 openSUSE_Leap_15.1_3 openSUSE_Leap_15.1_4 openSUSE_Leap_15.1_5 openSUSE_Leap_15.1_6 openSUSE_Leap_15.1_7 openSUSE_Leap_15.1_8 repo-non-oss repo-oss repo-update In previous openSUSE versions these dirs were named as the repo name I gave. For example the dirs from my openSUSE 13.1 system are: arj_Sauerland devel-tools-ide_codeblocks Education Emulators KDE3 madsoft_kuickshow multimedia-apps_cdrecord openSUSE-13.1-1.10 PACKMAN Publishing QT5 repo-oss repo-update security_ike server-database For me this approach is much more logical, because I can find a given file much easier, and I know which package comes from which repo. In current 15.1 I don't know how can I find a package that comes from a given repo. Questions: - What was the rationale behind changing the name scheme? - How can I find which package comes from which repo, and in which <dir> it is saved? - Is it possible to change the configuration to set back the old behavior? Nginx and GeoIP

If I install the geoipupdate, will that install the database I need? [opensuse] Raid, Raid6, what file system for good fault tolerance?

Hi list, speaking about software raid, not hardware controller based. I am trying to go for some local OpenSuse machine and adding some storage to it. Was considering Raid6, and now reading about a bit and people left and right scaremongering about the larger the disks these days in the double digit terabyte capacities even, the more likely it is that during a reconstruction of a raid subsequent errors would occur. I would absolutely like to keep my data consistent, and I am not thinking about double digit terabytes either, would stick to 2TB or 4TB disks, with Raid6 thats at least 4 physical drives. Now I am wondering if it possible to use a good robust file system that can add some more parity or check blocks or redundancy on top of the hardware disks, to absolutely be able to always read my data. I can't add multiple machines or like those high availability stuff like clusters and what not I read about DRBD (Distributed Replicated Block Device), or maybe I am just too scared by those technical terms or consider myself to be just a simpleton and wanting to keep it rather simple. My use case here is also not constant availablity, when a disk needs to be replaced, so be it, but I don't want to lose my data that I can not ever read certain parts of it again or such stuff. The thing that came to my mind was, if there is some file systems that would add redundancy and robustness onto the mdraid system of the linux kernel? Anyone with some useful insights? Roughly speaking, I was considering some simple pcie esata interfaced controller card and an external case enclosure with esata port and portmulitplier stuff inside, that can present at least 4 physical disks as JBOD, just a bunch of disks, so that the Linux can seem them all separately. Speed and rebuild times are not my concern, but data persistence and data integrity. Not even number of physical disks, I could live with even one of those 8 bay device enclosures and cases that are out there on the market. Hello, since a couple of weeks I experience a problem with mutt. At some point in time, mutt stops showing mail bodies. Once this happens, the only way to stop mutt from mis-behavong is to quit and start a new instance. There exists even an archive of the gcc mailing list to reproduce. For me, the problem is triggered ramdomly in pretty much every folder. No matter whether mbox or maildir or whatever. - In the bug, the problem seems to be triggered only when attachments are present in the mail. For me, the bug is triggered even if there are no attachments at all in the displayed messages. I just confirmed that by alternately showing http://lists.mutt.org/pipermail/mutt-users/Week-of-Mon-20201214/002273.html http://lists.mutt.org/pipermail/mutt-users/Week-of-Mon-20201214/002274.html jumping back and forth between those two messages, which both do not have any attachments. ihu can't resolve host

Hello: I have downloaded and installed IHU voip program from opensuse repos (https://download.opensuse.org/repositories/network/openSUSE_Leap_15.1/x86_6…). The installation was without error and the program starts. But when I enter a host to call, be it any host or localhost, I get this error: IHU Error Error: can't resolve localhost (or given host) If I try to call again, IHU stops with "Segmentation fault (core dumped)" message in the konsole (if I start IHU from the konsole). My system is openSUSE Leap 15.1 with KDE3. Network is managed by networkmanager. Is this an IHU issue or a system configuration problem? Would be nice if I could solve it. Any help is appreciated. Change webcam aspect ratio

I was recently experimenting with VLC and somehow it changed my webcam aspect ratio from 16:9 to 4:3, so that when I'm in video chats, I now have bars at the sides of my image. I have been searching, but cannot find any way to change it back. Any idea how to do that? Also what is VLC (or any other app) doing setting the aspect ratio, so that other apps are affected? tnx jk

15.2 fresh install the existence of even a BLANK ~/.vimrc prevents colors from working properly with the 8.0.1568-lp152.8.3.1 vim, vim-data-common, vim-data Content of the ~/.vimrc doesn't seem to matter. doing ":colorscheme $whatever" does seem to change the display subtly, but it certainly doesn't do what it is supposed to (slightly different grayscale, if one squints and looks for it) Checking a properly working 15.2 on another machine, I find that it has 8.0.1568-lp152.7.1 Downgrading those packages on the problem machine to 8.0.1568-lp152.7.1 works. [opensuse] Droidcam with iphone as a webcam, with google duo

I've been using droidcam with an iphone so it can be used with zoom, skype, duo as a camera. It was working until recently, but now with google duo it says something has gone wrong, cannot access camera microphone. Access is allowed in the settings though. This also applies to chromium. It still works with zoom, and skype. I suspected a kernel update, so I booted an old installation of 15.1, which was running kernel 5.4.10, installed the latest google chrome and that worked. I have tried updating my kernel to 5.9 but droidcam would not install. Currenly 5.3.18-lp152.50-default opensuse 15.2 What can I do? I have spend 3.5 hours!

Took a little more than > 30 seconds. Ok, I tried that operation and it worked (I was surprised), although leaving Thunderbird busy and not responsive for several minutes. But that is not the operation I need to do. Typically I would select a bunch of old mails in the INBOX and try to drag them to another folder, typically a folder under my local dovecot server. I tried that a week ago and failed. I try now, and it fails, does nothing. The block can be dragged, but on mouse release the blue block goes back to INBOX. Hi users @ list opensuse, maybe I am old school, but from old days of mails and usenet, I always came from the concept to post URLs, web-addresses and clickable links into like angle-brackets < > and make various mail clients and places be able to fully recognize and respect especially very long URLs URIs and more. Maybe I never fully grasped the concept, or had some misunderstanding of them to begin with. As far as I can now tell, the new HyperKitty (?) mechanism on https://lists.opensuse.org/archives/ apparently does not render clickable html links when browsing list posts e.g. on the new archives areas > https://lists.opensuse.org/archives/list/users@lists.opensuse.org/ vs > <https://lists.opensuse.org/archives/list/users@lists.opensuse.org/> Now I was wondering how one should post long links and more safely. I am writing via google gmail web interface. But also how about other inbound delivery means e.g. smtp clients etc? Also, some while ago, I tried to attempt to log-in or register on the web interface of the lists.opensuse.org server, but it then denied or spoke about not having implemented accounts yet or something. These days, it seems that one could log in to it with all sorts of credential providers, opensuse id, open id, github, gitlab, stack exchange, google log on. <https://lists.opensuse.org/accounts/login/> Registering apparently is still blocked. <https://lists.opensuse.org/accounts/signup/> Does this mean we can somehow claim our own account that we already use (email address as sender) to be able to log into the web interface as well and post there instead of our own mail clients or mail concepts? or when will this be available? All, Has anyone used the zoom app on openSUSE or should I just use the Firefox extension? They put out an openSUSE rpm at: https://zoom.us/download?os=linux with instructions at: https://support.zoom.us/hc/en-us/articles/204206269-Installing-or-updating-… There is also the Firefox add-on. Hello, we have a filetype with ending "fsp" ,which should be opened with a special application. I created a xml-file and registered the type "application/x-fsp" with "xdg-mime install" I also created a Desktop-file /usr/share/applications/mmview.desktop , which has an entry "MimeType=application/x-fsp" When I call "xdg-mime query default application/x-fsp" as my user, I get "which: no mmviews in (/usr/uti)" If I call it as root, I get "mmview.desktop". How do I configure a mime type for alle users under opensuse Leap?
