[opensuse] Tumbleweed speed

I have an old laptop (acer something - its my daughter's old one) that had the root file system die. It was up-to-date when this happened. So I decided to reinstall Tumbleweed. Luckily the /home partition was ok, so I just let it be. There is nothing important on this computer. It mainly contains a checkout of our current subversion source repository. The install is the same as before except that it i the latest install image, and I disabled CPU mitigations. Same file systems (btrfs for / and xfs for /home). I am fairly certain that all is set up the same: installation defaults. Unless I am imagining things, it is much faster than before the OS reinstall. I can't believe that the CPU mitigations make such a noticeable difference. Could it be other install defaults that have changed since the previous install (maybe 2 years ago)? The CPU is an Intel(R) Core(TM) i3. /proc/cpuinfo says: bugs : cpu_meltdown spectre_v1 spectre_v2 spec_store_bypass l1tf mds The kernel command line is: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-5.1.5-1-default root=UUID=be03609a-b2cb-426e-875e-aa9aaacbb5ba splash=silent resume=/dev/disk/by-uuid/f03be3df-6961-406e-82a7-7bc4deb7ef9a quiet mitigations=off I guess I should be happy. [opensuse] leap 15.1 / openvpn - stricter requirements on the server

Just a heads-up, maybe we have some openvpn users here? In leap 15.1 we ship openvpn 2.4.5 - this version has a stricter set of checks on the server setup. [opensuse] PHP include path problem with Horde on 42.3

Dear OpenSUSE users, I got an openSUSE 42.3 box with PHP 7.0.7 and latest horde 5.2.21 with IMP, turba, passwd, etc ... I installed horde via pear as described in the documents https://www.horde.org/apps/horde/docs/INSTALL and all went smooth and fine. the only problem I experience is the PHP include path in the php.ini in /etc/php7/cli/php.ini /etc/php7/apache/php.ini the default setting is: include_path = ".:/usr/share/php7:/usr/share/php7/PEAR" but this throws a fatal error accessing horde via apache HORDE: [horde] Error: Class 'PEAR_Config' not found in /usr/share/php7/PEAR/Horde/Core/Db/Migration.php:66 if i want to run horde-db-migrate via cli I get the same fatal error cx20:# horde-db-migrate PHP Fatal error: Uncaught Error: Class 'PEAR_Config' not found in /usr/bin/horde-db-migrate:28 If I have a look at the php_dir in pear config all seems to look fine cx20:~ # pear config-show PEAR directory php_dir /usr/share/php7/PEAR but I still do get the fatal error! only if I change the order (move the PEAR path to the front) of the include path in the php.ini things do work as they should include_path = ".:/usr/share/php7/PEAR:/usr/share/php7" which seems strange to me as PHP should try all the different include paths before throwing an error? anyone here with a similar issue? perhaps someone can shed some light on what is going on here? that would be nice ;) thanks & greetings Becki -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe(a)opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner(a)opensuse.org

[opensuse] Annoying features in Amarok

Since installing the latest Amarok on 15.1, I've noticed a couple of annoying "features". First, I now get a pop up message with the song title. Since I'm not deaf, I really don't need a pop up telling me what song is starting. The other, more serious "feature" is it stops playing after several songs. I have been using Amarok for a few years and not experienced these before. Any ideas? [opensuse] Google calc and Linux

Hi, I have created a small calc sheet to use on the move, using Google calc app on Android. Now, I wonder how can I use the said sheet on my Linux machine. I thought that I would see a tool on the browser page, gmail page, but no, I don't. Have I missed the icon, or do you know how to open it in Linux? -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. But no need to at all. Again, to see *all available* packages in each (every) configured repo (the main repo's are added by the installer) click on the "Repositories" tab in YaST/Software Management. On the left side is a list of each repo, as well as a selection for the entire "@system". In the list to the right, the packages with checks are installed, unchecked means not installed. Other than certain multimedia related packages (see below), I would guess that nearly all of what you're looking for will be in the main repo's. Before long you will likely need to add one or more unofficial repositories, of which there are many. In particular, the "Packman" repo holds many widely-used unofficial suse packages maintained by contributors; there are about a dozen in that repo that are needed for a fully unencumbered multimedia experience. To find all repo(s) having a particular package name, the "Get Software" link on the opensuse home page presents a search utility. YaST Software Management also organizes packages by "patterns" or "groups" which can be useful in identifying all in a category that may be of interest. I strongly recommend you use either YaST or zypper to install packages.
