Redirect permanent / https://www.mysite.com/ or RewriteEngine on RewriteCond %{SERVER_NAME} =www.mysite.com RewriteRule ^ https://%{SERVER_NAME}%{REQUEST_URI} [END,NE,R=permanent] So these are two different ways of performing a redirect. I have always used the former in my config. I notice that the latter method using the Rewrite engine is automatically generated by certbot. So which is better? What are the pros an cons of each method? Why does certbot choose to use the Rewrite engine? Can anyone please enlighten me? [opensuse] Two HP devices - compatibility question

Hi, I wander about Leap compatibility of these two devices: - HP LaserJet Pro MFP M28nw (T6B80A), or - HP LaserJet Pro M452nw (CF388A). Is there anyone on this list who can share some user experience? The first one is multifunctional and I wander very much about scanning part. Never used scanner on network before. Vendor pages are not clear on Linux support, neither on printing nor on scanning side. The second looks like more serious hardware. It's just printer (no MF) and vendor pages suggest that OpenSUSE is supported. I checked on https://en.opensuse.org/Portal:Hardware, and found nothing about these devices. Can anyone confirm that any of these teo work on Leap? TIA & best regards, Radule

[opensuse] What changed in the 10/2/18 updates to grub2 causing unwanted os-proper to run?

All, Updates dated 10/2/18 in /etc/grub cause os-prober to run when it has not run in the year prior adding a windows entry to my grub.cfg? This is completely unwanted behavior. What changed? os-prober was installed automatically when Leap 42.3 was installed, but has been well-behaved up until these 10/2/18 updates. Why was this changed? Is it better to rpm -e os-prober? Or, can /etc/default/grub be trusted not to be overwritten so that GRUB_DISABLE_OS_PROBER="true" will be respected going forward? -- David C. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA256 Ok, I have a small computer that I use as home file and media server. So I can use it to play files stored on it using Kodi. It also has an Apache server. So I try to watch movies on my tablet, served from my home server. I select a file using the default web brower, tap on it, choose play directly with VLC, and it plays directly without downloading the file in full first. It works fine. I can also select a point of the movie at random and go from that point. But I can't do the same on my laptop, it can't cope despite having much more power. Intel video. First I try with "kodi". Kodi can add video sources: I try "http" and "ssh". Both work, but after a bit the audio gets out of sync with the video. Same problem if I select ssh source (actually sftp). CPU load seems to be 80..90%. So I try vlc: vlc "http://Isengard.valinor/.../file.avi" It plays, but also here the sound gets out of sync, and frames seem to be missing. So I download the file with wget, then play it directly with VLC: plays fine this time. Local play. Then I try another type of remote "download": sshfs cer@Isengard.valinor:/ ~/fusermount/ which mounts the remote system at directory ~/fusermount/, and videos play fine. CPU load seems to be lower, around 60..70% Most of the problems happen with videos recorded from digital tv stream (mpeg). But the same videos play fine when I use fusermount instead of telling VLC to do the downloading. Kodi using fusermount with the same video file gets out of sync. What should I look at? I can not increase the power of the laptop, and anyway, the tablet seems to handle the situation much better. Well, it is also a somewhat smaller display... Ideas? - -- Cheers Carlos E. R. [opensuse] OT: RGB Video Conversion

Not strictly open SUSE, but technically kind of related as I will be using an openSUSE PC in this set up. Does anyone have any experience with Extron RGB devices? I have some games consoles and a dvd player which all use either Composite / S-Video / YPbPr / RGsB / RGBS and also a PC with a VGA output which is RGBHV. I intend to connect all these devices to an Extron MVX 84 VGA A switch. The first problem is than not all of these signals are RGB. Extron have suggested the DVS 304 which they say will take all the above signals from my switch and convert them to either RGBS or RGBHV. This is great because I have two monitors I can use. One accepts RGBHV (VGA Monitor) and the other accepts RGBS (CRT TV). The problem I have if you may have spotted it is that I have two different sync signal frequencies. The PC being VGA is 31KHz H-sync (meant for VGA) and all of the other devices are 15.6KHz (meant for RGB TVs). So what I want to know is; can I use a device such as the Extron DVS 304 to convert all of the input sync frequencies to either 15.6KHz or 31KHz so that I can use one of my two available monitors?
