[opensuse] Mouse hints (almost) unreadable

Hi, On my Leap 42.1 system I have some applications where the mouse hints (when you hover the mouse cursor over a menu or button) are almost unreadable (white text on very light grey background). Is this fixable ? I tried _some_ things with system-configuration, but didn't find a solution. I don't remember what I did. I gave up because I don't use XSane that much. But now I discoverd that Kicad also has that problem, so I thought I would ask. [opensuse] PCIe SATA card with Marvell 88sx7042 chip no longer working

Hello, I have 4-port PCIe SATA cards with Marvell 88sx7042 chip. Those cards worked for several years on an older AMD box with 12.X opensuse. Now I have upgraded to an Intel MB Z170-A an Opensuse Leap. With this new setup, those cards won't worl anymore. Sometimes, the system hangs during the boot process. Sometimes, the system boots, but when a disk is conntected to one of the card's ports (they are hot-pluggable), the detection of the disk won't work correctly. [opensuse] display and monitor settings

I have connected a television via svideo, and I went into kde settings and selected display and monitor. In there I was able to configure the TV display and get it working. (There was a pictorial display showing the laptop display and s-video display. I was able to move them around, change resolutions and scaling etc). However later when I went back into the same settings, I no longer seeing what I saw before, I am just seeing screen locker and screen locker type. I am bewildered. [opensuse] Redshift Gnome Extension - How Do I Apply a Patch File?

Since Redshift isn't supposed to work on Wayland, I'm trying to figure out how to install this extension: https://github.com/benzea/gnome-shell-extension-redshift I created the zip file in the instructions and used Tweak Tool to install it, but I've never used a .patch file before and I have no idea what to do with it. Some searching shows using a "patch" program to run it which I've installed, but I'm having trouble following what to do. I think I have to use "/usr/share/gnome-settings-daemon" (sans quotes) as one of the arguments, along with the .patch file? Reading the bugzilla, the whole thing seems a bit hacky but I rather miss the color calibration. Hello, got a problem with a machine here. First question: how to run btrfsck on boot? adding fsck.mode=force as kernel parameter seems only to only to check boot partition. The rebooted system fails again after some minutes (see log at end of post) 2nd question. What happened? The system ran for weeks without problems, five days ago a reboot because of updates. Then a reset on the SATA bus occured, but the btrfs is running on a level 1 mdraid. btrfs failed and volumes get remount ro. Hello: I have installed openSUSE Leap 42.2. The process was very smooth, the installer is very nice. I only installed yet a minimal X windows system which offers IceWM window manager. Unfortunately Yast2 font size is too small for my eyes. How can I change Yast's font size? I ran qtconfig and set font size to 12 pt both as root and as normal user, but it did not had any effect. If I remember correctly previously it made the trick. I found that a y2controlcenter-qt.conf file is created after running Yast2 in /root/.config/YaST2 and ~/.config/YaST2. On Leap 42.2 and probably also Tumbleweed, Libreoffice 5.2.3.3 is not pulling in the package `libreoffice-kde4` which when not installed, affects the look of the menus and fonts. Without this package, fonts are very small, hard to read and ugly (with a Windows 95 looking menu color). When I installed LibreOffice, I had to specify the `libreoffice-kde4` package to be installed as it's not pulled in automatically. There is another one called `libreoffice-gtk3` which I am assuming is the LibreOffice theming for GNOME. Hello: I have a DSL modem (not router) I need to use to connect to the internet. For connection I need a username/password pair which is set up in the system. This scenario worked in openSUSE versions up to 13.1. openSUSE 13.2 lacks pppoe/DSL setup in YAST. When openSUSE 13.2 came out I thought it was only a temporary thing, and it would be fixed. Now, before installing openSUSE leap 42.2 I checked it, and found this: Thread: No DSL connection in LEAP 42.2 https://forums.opensuse.org/showthread.php/521147-No-DSL-connection-in-LEAP… Is this information correct? And if yes is it serious, that after 2 more releases this hasn't still been fixed? I don't want to use network manager because I find it too complex, and I don't want users to be able to modify network settings. What I want is to setup network connection system-wide (same setup for all users) and that - users cannot modify network settings - users can connect to / disconnect from network by clicking an icon in the system tray or panel - users can choose from predefined connection setups This worked perfectly up to openSUSE 13.1 (smpppd and kinternet/ qinternet packages). Hello, When logging into my Plasma session window decorations don't load, the touchpad and keyboard act a bit wonky (continually highlighting text, very tedious to type), and windows are opened in the top left corner if they open at all. Some apps such as kmail will not load at all. I'm logged in using IceWM at the moment, so I'm up and running. Just not as nice as Plasma or Gnome =P. Not sure what I need to look at or what I can provide for anyone to help out. I am running Leap 42.2 with KDE Plasma. Kernel is 4.4.36-8, no other kernels are on my system at the moment. [opensuse] problems typing text (curious!)

Hello, I try to copy/paste text from a "cat /etc/apache2/vhosts.d" on my leap server (through ssh). the goal is to write a document page on Pmwiki, but I get the same problem pasting in Thunderbird I'm in kde, also Leap 42.1 example below. I can't have the <Directory and /> on the same line, when I can have it there: <Directory /> (same for the other lines) the two of them are UTF8. I suspect some invisible character. How can I get rid of this annoying thing? Note: I don't know how to send you an example, Thunderbird fix the problem :-). [opensuse] Sign of a Failing SD Card?

Hello, I have an SD card that is giving me trouble. I had Fedora 25 ARM on it before it stopped responding. I noticed it when I could no longer SSH to the Raspberry Pi. I plugged in a monitor and received an error when running any command I tried (I'm afraid I forgot to write it down). On reboot it would fail into a recovery console. When running fsck on the card I receive gobs of errors on the main partition. Below is a sample of the errors, there are many many more, all the same just the blocks change. Is this the sign of a failing card? I reformatted once and reinstalled Fedora, but only about a week later I noticed the same problem. I ran fsck.ext -y and it took a few minutes to churn through. No errors were printed at the end. [opensuse] Thunderbird and archived mail broken?

One of the nice things about Thunderbird is the ability to archive mail locally. I have used it in the past when it worked well. Not any more! I am using TB 45.6 in Leap 42.2 with KDE Frameworks. I have two accounts, one IMAP and one gmail. I have set the IMAP account to archive messages in the "Archives" folder in Local Folders, but it consistently ignores this setting and moves them into "Archives" on the IMAP server. The Mozilla help forum has been unhelpful, and googling hasn't provided a solution either. Does anyone on the list use this feature of Thunderbird? Have you come across this problem? [opensuse] 42.2 - Why don't icons stay put???

One thing I've noticed is that desktop icons have a bad habit of moving around after rebooting etc. At least in 13.1, they tended to stay put (but not always), if one properly logged out. Why do they move around in 42.2? In other operating systems I've worked with (Windows & OS/2), they always retained their position. [opensuse] Fans on Full Speed or not at all (Leap 42.2 Fresh install)

Oldish (ok, ancient) laptop, Dell Insperion 9400 with new install onto SSD. Since the update of last Monday, fans come on full speed even at low-ish temps of 34C. Fans are either full speed or none at all. When I first installed 42.2 I don't remember this being this way. My fans have several intermediate speeds. What changed, and how can I get back to stepped and managed fan speeds? [opensuse] Can't open Konqueror - Leap 42.2

I often use Konqueror, but today it failed to open. When I try to use it, I get an error message: "KDEInit could not launch 'ksystraycmd': Could not open library 'libkdeinit5_ksystraycmd'. Cannot load library libkdeinit5_ksystraycmd: (libkdeinit5_ksystraycmd: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory)" When I search on ksystraycmd in Yast Software Management, the package kdebase4-workspace turns up and is shown as available, but if I try to install it, I get several conflict errors. I was used to see netstat -tulpn presenting postfix listening to port25 on my leap default install. Provided that was not "ab-normal" this has gone. [opensuse] BTRFS problems

Hey, I installed openSUSE Leap 42.2 with btrfs as root. Now, performing a btrfs balance or a snapper cleanup takes "ages" while there is no or little disk activity but btrfs or btrfs-transaction constantly hogs one CPU. The system becomes very unresponsive and even loses its WiFi connection. For the iwlwifi/mac layer there are warnings in the log like "DWARF2 unwinder stuck at ret_from_fork+...". But nothing for btrfs except one time there was a: "NMI watchdog: BUG: soft lockup - CPU#3 stuck for 22s! [btrfs:4090]" in "btrfs_qgroup_trace_extent_nolock+...". Any ideas? There is plenty of unallocated space (25 of 40 GiB).
