[opensuse] Tip: Google Earth under oS 11.2

Hi all. This may be common knowledge but I had to search the Google site for answers so it may help someone else. After installing Google Earth v5 on 11.2 (and probably earlier versions as well) it may well fail to run, complaining that it cant find libstdc++.so.6. The problem is that the versions installed by Google Earth conflict with the standard system libraries. This doesn't just affect openSuSE - the same problems have been reported on other distros as well. The solution is to rename libcrypto.so.0.9.8, libstdc++.so.6 and libgcc_s.so.1 in the Google Earth installation directory (/opt/google-earth if installed as root or /home/<user>/google-earth if installed as a user). I simply added .orig to the end of the filenames. Is there a package in OBS for QT Creator 1.3.1 for openSUSE 11.2? I see it for openSUSE 11.0 (software search on openSUSE web site). So perhaps I am looking in the wrong place. [opensuse] epson stylus s21

i have an epson stylus s21 which is supported by gutenprint the newest version and i ve tried cups old and cups new, both dont work and the older one says nothing, brings no error, does as if everything is fine, but the printer is not printing. i can not print a test page because he says: Unsupported format 'application/postscript'! which he only does after compiling or upgrading, so i am sure opensuse team temepered with cups there and now he brings up such errors everywhere. i dont know how they were able to do it, because i did compile this cups for example by myself, but its a problem that comes also when you install it from other repos. however, thats the beginning, i suppose there are tons of bugs which prevent this printer from working. but i can not go any further than this, becuause he doesnt say anything meaningful or useful that could be a hint because i dont even know what bug is from cups and what is opensuse's tampering. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe(a)opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help(a)opensuse.org

[opensuse] Past Week - Tbird & Firefox not shutting down when you click 'Close' or 'Quit'

Guys, Over the past week or so, I have had terrible problems with thunderbird and firefox not quitting when you tell them to resulting in either and error message when you try and restart them telling you they are still running and you have to quit them first before you can restart them or just screwing up your session so that firefox and thunderbird unexpectedly start the next time you launch your desktop (kde set to save session on exit) I thought something with kde session manager was botched at first and I would just either edit or delete ksmserverrc, but then when I got the error about Firefox and Thunderbird needing to be shutdown before being restarted, things started to make a little more sense. For example, when thunderbird fails to shutdown, the process that continue to run are either one or more of: thunderbird thunderbird-bin thunderbird.sh Setting up a small script to check for them and kill them straightened this out, but that doesn't answer the question of what's broke or how to fix it. [opensuse] Skype mic input

Suse 11.2 x64/KDE 4.4 I know this seems to come up on a regular basis, but have looked and unable to find any fix.... Had skype running ok previously, thought i would take the plunge and try pulse audio - didn't work (struggled for ages trying to get *any* input - think it has an issue with my sound hardware - 82801JI...) so have uninstalled pulse audio (well, the bits I installed - Pulseaudio and the bits it automatically removes with it - leaves the volume control/admin and various other bits and plugins) Most things seem to be back to normal, but... there is no input into Skype. In Skype, I cannot choose any sound devices, only have "default" with no other choices. Have tried different versions of Skype, the latest (rpm, dynamic and static), and 2 previous versions which were working PRE-pulse... Any ideas on how to get Skype to recognise something...?? It never ever contains any error information beyond that. When the return value does not match 'count', then you must use 'errno' to see what the problem was. The action to take beyond that depends on if the file descriptor is blocking or not. For a disk file, and looking at your sample code, your writes are blocking. So the only two possible return values from write() are -1 and 'count'. [opensuse] X problem on Inspiron 8200 11.2 & nVidia driver

Just did a fresh install of 11.2 on a Dell Inspiron 8200. It has the GeForce 4Go chip with 64MB VRAM. It works fine with the oss driver, but when I install the nVidia driver, I get a blank screen. It even turns the backlight off. I'm assuming there is a problem with the resolution but I'm not sure. I can't get SaX2 to run at any setting with the nVidia driver. Once I remove it, it works fine.
