[opensuse] Display oddity when upgrading from 10.0 to 10.3

Hello, everyone. I am writing using my wife's account on the SuSE list. I recently upgraded my desktop from 10.0 to 10.3 (clean install). Now when I view images (for example, a powerpoint slide, or a .jpg) what previously had displayed as a perfect rectangular landscape image instead shows as almost a square (and in some cases actually is a square). The page size setting in Powerpoint is correctly set at the default and I confirmed that it is the same as on another computer (SuSE 10.0) that displays properly, so that's not the problem. I have looked everywhere in Powerpoint and in Gwenview for a setting (e.g., aspect ratio) that might be off but have not found anything that changes the aspect ratio or any other setting so that what is now appearing as a square or nearly a square will instead display as a proper rectangle. I also looked at various images on my 10.0 laptop which displays properly and copied those images to the 10.3 desktop. When viewed on the desktop the image (e.g., a screen shot) is squished. :o( Any ideas on how to get this 10.3 pooter to display images correctly? Many thanks for your wise suggestions. I have been granted permission to send you this email by the openSUSE management, and I hope you do not mind receiving it. [opensuse] 10.3 Kernel problem with P5A-B motherboard.

I should be most grateful for advice on how to investigate this problem further. I have installed opensuse 10.3 on a P5A-B motherboard (Aladdin V chipset) with 512MB of SDRAM, Cyrix MII-300 processor. This runs slowly, with somewhat garbled graphics (ATI Radeon 7000) if I use X windows. Without X windows, in run level 3, the load average after booting (and after it has done various database things and settled) is about 0.50. Even if I start it with so-called safe mode and remove all loadable modules apart from those needed to drive the IDE interface the load average never falls below about 0.20. In the first case the CPU usage is about 60% idle and about 30% "si" (is this context switching?). In the second, CPU is about 95% idle, but the load average varies from 0.16 to 0.22. I assume some driver or high priority kernel process too fundamental to show up by "ps" is in a loop occupying processor time. Certainly the machine is even more sluggish than the hardware should warrant (and I am using older hardware in a router running SuSE 10.1 with load averages about .01 to .02). This is clearly too vague for a bug report, can anyone suggest how I can pin this down more, for instance find out where the CPU is spending most of its time? [opensuse] rsync - keys - no-password question

Hello, I want to stop the password request when running rysnc on a second source server. I have a single target machine that has ssh keys from a source machine (source A). I want to connect a second source machine (source B), using rsync over ssh, to the target machine, however I see keys in the target machine's /etc/ssh directory. If I create keys on 'source B', they'll have the same name as the keys from source A on the target machine. Sorry if this is a stupid question, but how do you accomplish having the ssh keys set properly on the target machine from two different source machines? [opensuse] Problem getting printing to work in OpenOffice

Not too long ago a similar question was asked and an answer given. I have searched the Suse database/site and mailing list(s), including the OpenOffice site, but cannot find the answer - obviously I am not looking in the right places nor using the right search words. I am using Suse 10.2 (and 10.3 on a test bed) but cannot get OO (everything upgraded to the latest versions) to print out a document to an IBM/Lexmark 4039 12R Plus laser printer. If I use Kwrite, to create a document and then print it, the printing is successfully done in seconds. Can anyone, please, either tell me what the "fix" is to get OO to print out a document or point me to the location where I can get the answer? (I have a couple of documents which need to be printed out rather quickly (but not as a matter of "life or death") so if someone can provide a quick answer I would be most grateful.) Ciao. I neither live under a rock nor do I idle away my time. Nor can I fathom a need for Beagle when it is such a resource hog. I am reminded of a friend who has been buying and using personal computers since the old twin 5 1/4" drive TRS-80 just so he could keep track of his crap. Nowdays he is no better and he uses some kind of file indexing scheme on his Windows box. I used to spend time there helping him with projects; after a day or two, I had all his stuff catalogued in my head and could find it for him faster than he could look it up. Ditto with my files that are strung out over 3 disk drives and in tons of email. For me, Beagle is a terrible waste; for him and others like him, it is probably a Godsend. YMMV. [opensuse] Advanced postfix question: IP and reverse DNS

Dear list, maybe someone here's a postfix guru. I have a problem which I don't know if it's solvable at all. I have a machine running as mail server for several domains. Each domain has its own IP. For each IP I can set up a reverse DNS entry. How can I configure postfix to send e-mail using different IPs depending on sender domain? I had the same kind of problem with oo and OpenSuSE 10.2. The reason in my case is that oo is not initially configured to print through a NFS network. If your document to print is stored on a disk mounted with NFS, then edit the file /usr/bin/soffice and uncomment the two first lines: #SAL_ENABLE_FILE_LOCKING=1 #export SAL_ENABLE_FILE_LOCKING Hope it can help...
