Installing 10 (OSS RC1) Under 9.3 Possible?

Hi, I have a well-functioning 9.3 installation and will be setting up a 10.0 installation using the Novell commercial distribution when it arrives. I'm attempting a preview installation using the 10.0 RC1 OSS release based on the 5-CD set of ISOs I just retrieved via the torrent published on the openSUSE.org Web site. What I'd like to do is run all (or as much as possible) of the installation software under my existing 9.3 setup. I want to do this for two reasons: 1) Keep the system available for ordinary operations during the (preview) installation. 2) Make it easy to access information about the existing configuration without having to write it all down or hunt for it in configuration files during the execution of the installer. Is this possible? Are there other ways to accomplish my goals (especially (2))? I have VMware and it occurred to me to set up a VM for the purpose of installing the new release, but that approach seems flawed because of the significant discrepancies between the emulated environment and the physical one on which I'll ultimately want the new installation to run. VMWare 5.0, SuSE 9.3 and a patched 2.6. Kernel

Hi all, I am running SuSE Linux 9.3 with kernel 2.6.11 and tried to install VMWare 5.0. While doing an online update the latest patches have been applied to the stock kernel. Now, 'uname -r' gives '2.6.11.4-21.9-default' which is obviously different from the previous stock kernel version 2.6.11.4.-20a-default. So far so good. When trying to install VMWare 5.0 the installation routine prompts for my kernel includes of the running kernel. The SuSE kernel sources have been installed to /usr/src/linux-2.6.11.4.-20a. No sources have been placed in /usr/src/linux-2.6.11.4-21.9 the source directory of my running kernel, except for two headers, namely autoconf.h and version.h. Even if the module were to compile successfully, it would not load into the running kernel." I understand what is going on, but I don't know what to do next to fix this problem. Knoda not working

Hi On RC1, when I try to connect knoda to a MySQL database, the application fails with the error knoda: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/hk_classes/drivers/libhk_mysqldriver.so: undefined symbol: mysql_server_init MySQL is worlking properly. Has anyone got knoda working or is this a fundamental problem? I cannot find anything in Bugzilla. Regards Alistair

Kernel 2.4.31 over SuSE 9.3?

Hello from Adam. VMWare uses a customised version of the Linux kernel in order to do its job. It has to install hooks in the kernel in order to have to keep its control. If you want to continue using VMware,You should first uninstall VMWare and then do the on-line upgrade then do the VM install. Why are you using VMWare? If you are running mult-Linux machines, you might want to use Xen instead. Xen is also open-source. Any updates are also made to the Xen-ready kernels. Open Office Database Wizard Question

I'm trying to run an OpenOffice database query against an Oracle database on the same machine via an ODBC connection. I can see tables and build queries in Open Office DB just fine, but when I try to run them, I get the following (always the same, so this is a sample from one I ran) -- SQL STATUS: HY000 Error Code: 1000 Syntax error in SQL Expression Syntax error, unexpected INVALIDSYMBOL, expecting FROM or SQL_TOKEN_INTO, Invalid symbol: ."A" The sql it put together in the Query Wizard looks like this -- SELECT "TEST_TABLE1"."A" FROM "OPS$GREGW"."TEST_TABLE1" "TEST_TABLE1" Why it wants to put the "'s around everything I don't know, but I copied this exact sql statement into the Oracle built in interactive tool (sqlplus), ran it, and it worked fine. It's actually a perfectly valid query (select table TEST_TABLE1 column A from schema.table=OPS$GREGW.TEST_TABLE1" assigning an alias to the table of TEST_TABLE1). Anybody have any clues on what could be going wrong here and why OpenOffice can build but not run this query? Thanks, Greg Wallace

Hello. My PC have a two ethernet interfaces. Both are connected to one network (/24) by two ports of Catalyst. The eth0 have IP-address 1.1.1.1 and eth1 - 1.1.1.2 I need to see ALL packets from and to 1.1.1.1 address in eth0, also ALL packets from|to 1.1.1.2 in eth1. Now, many packets from|to 1.1.1.2 I can see by "tcpdump -i eth0" (not in eth1). Do you know special setting in network configuration of SuSE_9.3 to separate a traffic by interfaces? Thank you. Oss.
