Hi all, Well thanks to those who gave me input on my modem not connecting to the provider. I tried all the suggestions (aside from switching providers) and still it times out on the 'sending password' portion of the connect. Having to use my wifes winbox to connect is killing me :( Oh well..I know I don't have to worry about her using my machine for anything now cuz I get the "See..I told you Windows is better" attitude. [KDE]Kmixer and MIXER setings in general

Now years after using console as hobby only, I find time to get myself to view around in KDE, finding it _very_ annoying that all the time Kmixer comes up with some stupid default settings which in result in a terrible beep on my notebook as Kmixer defaults to MIC=activated. So I remove that nonsense everytime to save my ears. But after next boot, all those settings which I have just made are gone. The File folder neither shows an option to SAVE the settings, what now? KDE is often difficult for first-time users and not very self-explaining... Any rpm for the hpijs HP printer driver for SuSE 7.1?

It seems that there is built-in support for the hpijs HP DeskJet driver in SuSE Linux 7.2. Is it possible to get rpm packages to get this driver working in SuSE Linux 7.1 as well? To get this driver working manually, I have to compile part of it into GhostScript, and I would prefer to try to get rpm packages before having to work this way, and maybe ruin something. WHAT HAPPENED: ============== I am unable to access the harddrisk hda, I cannot read the partition table since: WHAT I DID: =========== I just executed lilo after changing the boot _order_ (boot dos second, linux first), nothing extraordinary really. Lilo completed correctly as always, but since then I cannot boot nor even access any partition n that hda. ERRORS: ======= error 0x40 uncorrectable error LBAsect=9 sector=0 end_request: I/O error dev 03:00 (hda) sector unable to read partition table AND NOW?: ========= Running fdisk /dev/hda says "cannot read partition data" Even trying with DOS6.22' DOS-FDISK (fdisk /mbr) did not bring me on, since it complains it cannot read/write the partition table. EMERGENCY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! REAL TROUBLE!!!!!!!! ========================================================= I need my data back. I cannot repartition hda, is there any tool to help me out of this desaster? Maybe this is a lilo bug? Since I have not done any thing to the data inside /etc/lilo.conf, only changed the order of appearance!!!! not more! Burn bootable CDs

Hi fellows. I am thinking of burning images of the below kind: 1) bootable both Linux and DOS 6 2) Linux should boot from CD into 16 MB HDD 3) Securing my installed Souzie for backup reasons, it should then work from CD (inside Ramdisk), if possible Now, please how can I get this done, what do I need? If detailed explanation is asked too much, a little friendly point into the right direction was enough.

I am on a toshiba atellite 1750, I have suse linux 7.1, well I am trying to use the modem with kdial, but Iam getting this error msg: can not find /dev/modem, and thisother one: /etc/resolv.conf is missing or can not be read...so what should I do... Idonothave idea about linx, I know aboutwin and as a matter of fact the modemis working fine under win2000 but no way unser linux, plese give me a hand, cheers

Nvidia drivers for 2.4.7?

Are the SuSE Nvidia droves available from the nvidia site compatible with kernel 2.4.7 or should I stick to the kernel version that was shipped with 7.2?
