In this particular case it would help identifying the connector so the -I and -D does make a difference. Most of my cards have two DVI-I connectors, though, so there is no way (I know of) to map the connector table information to a specific connector on the rear panel. Agreed. Needs some additional logic, but shouldn't be too problematic.
I even doubt that there are cards with more than one DVI connector
type...
