I updated to KDE 4.6.3 and when I plug in an USB stick the KDE device applet does not show it. Is there still an issue with udev / HAL? Do we still need to use SOLID_HAL_LEGACY=1 with KDE 4.6.3?
If I remember correctly this was only needed for oS < 11.3 since all other versions have usdisks available. And I guess those will always need it, no matter what new KDE release you install.

I have exactly the same problem - USB disks are detected and assigned a device as shown in /var/log/messages but KDE 4.6.3 knows nothing of them. All worked find under 4.5.8 - the problem started with updating to 4.6.3.
How does one set that environment variable to take effect when KDE runs (so I can test it to see if it fixes my problem)?
4.5.8? Never existed :-) You could start by checking out if udisks is even installed. rpm -q udisks hal -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org
