SAMBA/Network browsing problems

Hi all, I have recently installed Suse 9.1 and Im having major problems with browsing and authenticating to our samba server which is configured as our primary domain controller and file server. I am using KDE 3.3 When I first installed suse I configured the smb client under YAST, when I first tried to join the domain I was succesful. When I tried to browse the network, konqueror immediately popped up saying " Internal error". I tried joining the domain from the console and I had no problems, I can even view the shares on the samba server from the console. I then tried a number of times to rejoin the domain and constantly received errors. I thought this was perhaps a bug with YAST and I did a complete online update. When I now try join the domain, the domain does not appear under YAST if I click the browse button. If I manually type in the domain and click join I dont get prompted for authentication but I dont receive any errors either. I can still manually joing the domain from the console and can still see all the shares fine from the console. I tried joining the domain from the console and then browsing the network from the desktop but I still receive the same Konqueror internal error. As a last resort I tried mounting the shares using the console with smbmount //server/share /mountpoint -o username=username,password=password, this works fine and I am able to browse the shares from the desktop using konqueror but I am not given the privileges to access the files that my username should. It is as though I have mounted the shares but my username has not been authenticated. I have proved this by the fact that I can access shares that do not have user specific privileges, I get denied access to the ones that do. The rest of our network works perfectly with the same usernames on our windows pcs. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have tried searching google and have found others with the same problem but so far have found no solution. Attempting to get bluetooth USB device working

Well, here is the rub, when ever I plug in the USB bluetooth transeiver I get an error mesage stating "Failed to connect to SDP Server". Details are not that very specific. I googled for possible fixes, but don't seem to be able to wade though and find anything that would point to a quick fix. Lots of details on kernel 2.4x, and patches neede to make it work, but I am on 2.6x. Full details: Dell Latitude C640 USB "Ultra" Bluetooth USB Adaptor model BTA-3000 SUSE 9.1 KDE 3.3x Can someone point me in the right direction to start, or offer any suggestions as to what I have goofed on? kuickshow disappeared in latest kdegraphics3

I've just noticed that my kuickshow appears to have vanished since picking up the latest (3.3.0-12) kdegraphics3. It doesn't appear to be in the rpm, although it claims to provide (in the 'provides' info) /opt/kde3/bin/kuickshow. It also seems to be absent from the 3.3.0-10 package. It's still in the kde menu, and graphics files attempt to open in it, but fail since it isn't on my system. Martin Farmilo

k3b brennt nicht mehr!

K3B bringt in einer Systemmeldung folgendes: "cdrecord kann nicht ohne root-Berechtigung laufen Es wird dringend empfohlen, "cdrecord" so einzurichten, dass es mit Systemverwaltungsrechten läuft. Nur dadurch läuft "cdrecord" mit hoher Priorität, wodurch der Brennvorgang stabiler wird. Viele Probleme können dadurch gelöst werden. Alternativ kann "resmgr" von SuSE verwendet werden. Lösung: Verwenden Sie den K3b-Einrichtungsassistenten zur Lösung dieses Problems. cdrdao kann nicht ohne root-Berechtigung laufen Es wird dringend empfohlen, "cdrdao" so einzurichten, dass es mit Systemverwaltungsrechten läuft. Kontact and Kpilot, sync works but where is my data?

Hello, I try to get my data from pilot to Kontact. Sync works without problems and in Kpilot is all my data. But how do I get it to Kontact? On my system is Suse 9.1 personal installed with latest yast updates (Kde 3.3, Kpilot 4.4.4 Wolfsburg and Kontact 1.0 form supplementary directory). Conduits in Kpilot are set and I tried to save my addresses to standard addressbook and in a vCard file. Did I miss a configuration option? Adam

Hallo, ich als LINUX-Anfänger (suse 9.1) bekomme den CUPS nicht initialisiert!! Bei der Druckerinstallation, über YAST, wird folgende Meldung angezeigt: "CUPS Daemon konnte nicht initialisiert werden"!!. vielleicht kann mir einer über diese Hürde helfen. Hi Luca! Thanks, you saved me. :) Disabled the new extensions Composite and RENDER and konsole works fine again. I will try to go deeper into this in the meanwhile and will look for xorg bug reports, too. Slow launch of KDE apps

Hi, I upgraded to Suse 9.1 and found the KDE applications launch (all of them) very slow. Google reports other people having this problem. Sometimes it seems related to a problem with name resolving, but I don't think this is my case. I tested different PCs and the problem remains. On the same hardware (k6-2 400 MHz, 256M Ram) this are some timings: Konsole start, repeated several times to be shure it is in cache: Suse 9.1: 6 seconds Suse 8.2: 1.5 seconds Knoppix 3.6 (kernel 2.6, KDE 3.2.3) 2 seconds It doesn't matter if it is launched from the console or from menu. Other X applications (Xeyes) start in no time. Things get worse on slower hardware. During the launch time the cpu seems to be very busy, while the disk is barely accessed. It seems to me something is wrong with Suse 9.1. Am I the only one with this problem? Alberto

KDVI can't print

Hello. I recently upgraded my KDE & KDVI altogether. It has versions Qt: 3.3.3 KDE: 3.3.0 KViewShell: 0.2 It works except that I can't print anymore, I get a crash instead. Hello List, please can anyone confirm this behaviour or better tell me waht i am doing wrong here ? konqueror and cookies not working

Hi Group, - I'm running SuSE9.1/2.6.5-7.108-default kernel with Konqueror 3.2.1, all plain vanilla. -I've noticed however, that I'm not able to properly access web-sites requiring session cookies. They don't seem to be written to disk. The problem is actually across all browsers; Firefox, Opera and even IE in CrossOver. - This leeds me to suspect a SuSE9.1 problem, not a KDE/konqueror problem. Has anyone a clue to this? PS: one small question to the experts :-) I've installed Firefox as a regular user, when I try to start it with "./firefox", I get access denied to window 0:0 and so forth. I remedy it with "xhost +localhost". Kontct Installation Problems

When I try to install then newestversion of kdepim on my suse 9.1, yast tells me, that kdepim is missing one kde-organizer lib. If i ignore it, the installation works fine and kontact works. If ithe try to install korganizer, there are all lot of unresolved dependencies. so i abort the installation. does anybody have a hint? thanx wolfgang

konsole crashing with kdebase3-3.3.0-15 SuSE 9.1

Hi dear list! Today once again I updated my kde3.3 installation with the actual packages from supplementary tree. With this there came an update from my kdebase3-3.3.0-something to kdebase3-3.3.0-15. The konsole in this package is seriously broken. started in an xterm, I get the output: X Error: BadColor (invalid Colormap parameter) 12 Major opcode: 1 Minor opcode: 0 Resource id: 0x5000001 X Error: BadWindow (invalid Window parameter) 3 Major opcode: 18 Minor opcode: 0 Resource id: 0x5200001 X Error: BadWindow (invalid Window parameter) 3 Major opcode: 18 Minor opcode: 0 [...] I don't know if this is only the case with my xorg 6.8.1 (from SuSE supplementary, too) Can reproduce on two systems (P4 /w Intel 845 Graphics and Athlon XP2800 /w NVidia GF4Ti) At the moment I'm trying to solve the problem by rebuilding the source package of kdebase3-3.3.0-15 I will post if that helps. @SuSE staff: Please try to get into this problem, anyway. Grey Message Body

I am having trouble with KMAIL. The messages I get are just grey blanks BUT if I open them in "reply" I can read them (text in green). I have tried changing fonts and setting everything to default but nothing seems to correct the problem. What's going on?

kontact crashes

Since some time (I think it started around kdelibs-3.3.0 release 8 or so) kontact crashes for me during startup (this is on suse 9.1). I have removed the kontactrc file, but that does not help. Turns out that when I edit the string in KEdit and just hit the Return key where I want to break the line, the clipboard carries that over to the greeting. By the way, /n (and \n, for that matter) doesn't work. I am running SuSE 9.1 and KDE 3.2 on a DoD machine and need to insert a required long piece of text in the greeting so that all users see it prior to logging on. How do I insert line breaks in the Greeting (in Control Center, Administrator mode) so the whole message is visible? Screensavers, X & KDE

Hi all, I know everyone has been having a problem with Xscreensavers on the updates to KDE 3.3, but did anyone lose their KDE savers with the latest updates? One in particular I know many of us liked was the new GL fireworks saver. Upon doing some investigation after updating, we managed to come up with a couple of fixes. First the problem with the xscreensavers seems to be that the kdeartwork3 files are compiled on a newer system probably running SuSE 9.2 and with the screen savers located in a different location. When compiling kdeartwork3 from source, it actually searches for the location and sets things up for that, so a simple recompile of the source will fix it on your machine without doing the symlinks. The second problem, missing KDE screen savers, was a bit more difficult to track down, but as with many things difficult, I called on Anders Johansson for help. He came through again and found it was a matter of changing a line in the .diff file which made the compile include the KDE screensavers as well. All in all, some easy fixes, but perplexing none the less! Some folks doing KDE 3.3 updates using older versions of SuSE, 8.1 or 8.2 might find several other problems as well, since much has changed from 8.x to 9.x! KDE 3.3 upgrade

Hi, I have been following the recent posts about upgrading to KDE 3.3. Most of them have been about upgrading SUSE 9.x. I am running SUSE 8.2 and I am very happy with it, but I would like to upgrade to KDE 3.3. Before I do I was just wondering if anyone here has upgraded to KDE 3.3 on their SUSE 8.2 system, and if so did you encounter any problems or difficulties?
