I am having trouble with KMAIL. The messages I get are just grey blanks BUT if I open them in "reply" I can read them (text in green). I have tried changing fonts and setting everything to default but nothing seems to correct the problem. What's going on?

Does changing colors help? Settings -> Configure KMail... -> Appearance -> Colors If it doesn't, inspect the headers of a message: View -> Headers -> All Headers Anything strange? Cheers, Leen

smells like a font problem. which font did you configure for the mail display?
Does changing colors help?
Settings -> Configure KMail... -> Appearance -> Colors
If it doesn't, inspect the headers of a message:
View -> Headers -> All Headers
Anything strange?

Perhaps somebody fooled you and sent HTML mail with grey font on grey background. Right click in the message preview and choose "view message sourcecode" or similar. Greets, Daniel

I suggest that for mail that cannot, by use of a KMail filter, be reasonably ascertained to be safe (known sender, properly filtered mailing list, etc.) that the folder in which such mail is deposited (including your "inbox") have the viewing preference "Prefer HTML to Plain Text" option (in the "Folder" menu) _dis_abled.
Right click in the message preview and choose "view message sourcecode" or similar.
Or turn off "Prefer HTML to Plain Text".

Greyingout is true for ALL messages including all of yours. I can only read them in "reply" mode. Changing colours, fonts, etc does nothing. Clicking right (or left) in the preview doesn't even get me a pop-up. On Tuesday 21 September 2004 13:13, Randall R Schulz wrote:

What kind of mail folders are you using? Have you tried compacting the inbox? (Folder/compact) Charly Baker On Tuesday September 21 2004 1:57 pm, Patrick Hertel wrote:

A colleague of mine had the exact same problem with kmail on mandrake 10.0. Ironically enough, the problem was fixed by upgrading to suse 9.1. The same problem was present in kontact. Unfortunately, neither of us have any idea why it was happening though. I'm sorry I can't be any more help than to corroborate your story! :-( daveor On Wednesday 22 September 2004 05:57, Patrick Hertel wrote:
