[opensuse-gnome] gnome package versions in 11.3 and in GNOME:/STABLE:/2.30/openSUSE_11.3
Hi. How come versions of gnome packages in GNOME:/STABLE:/2.30/openSUSE_11.3 are earlier than the ones on the 11.3 dvd? Does this mean that GNOME:/STABLE:/2.30/openSUSE_11.3 is not ready yet? I guess it's simple the rpm release version, not the upstream version? If yes, then that's just because of the way the packages are built in the build service, I guess. If there's an upstream version that is earlier in G:S:2.30 than in 11.3, please tell us which :-) But in general, G:S:2.30 is nearly ready for wide use, there's just a small gdm fix that needs to go in. If there's an upstream version that is earlier in G:S:2.30 than in 11.3, please tell us which :-)
But in general, G:S:2.30 is nearly ready for wide use, there's just a small gdm fix that needs to go in.

You are correct - it is the rpm release versions in G:S:2.30 that are earlier than in 11.3. Which means that if you simply add G:S:2.30 repo, then "zypper up" (or yast) won't install anything from it until the rpm release version in G.S.2.30 finally catches up with what was released on the dvd. Also, I thought that G.S.2.30 was supposed to be based on Gnome packages from released 11.3 (i.e. initially seeded with 11.3 packages). Is that not the case? It's recommended to do zypper dup when using G:S:2.30, though, so it shouldn't be a big issue. See http://old-en.opensuse.org/GNOME/2.30

It is, afaik. Vincent -- Les gens heureux ne sont pas pressés. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-gnome+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-gnome+help@opensuse.org

Sorry for being dense, but why are there differences in rpm release versions between 11.3 and G.S.2.30 if G.S.2.30 was seeded from the same rpm packages as 11.3? I don't know. Do you have an example we can look at? It'll be easier to check what's happening this way. Vincent -- Les gens heureux ne sont pas pressés. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-gnome+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-gnome+help@opensuse.org

Ok, here are three examples (but there are many more): http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/GNOME:/STABLE:/2.30/openSUSE_11.3/... http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/11.3/repo/oss/suse/x86_64/gconf2-2... Thanks, they all have the same "issue":
http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/GNOME:/STABLE:/2.30/openSUSE_11.3/...
http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/11.3/repo/oss/suse/x86_64/gconf2-2... (more recent)
In openSUSE, the rpm version is upstream-release-build, where: + upstream is the upstream version + release is the release tag used in the rpm .spec file + build is a number generated by the build service, and that gets upgraded every time a build happens What happened here is that in G:S:2.30, gconf2 was built only twice by the build service, while for the 11.3 repository, it was built four times. This is because G:S:2.30 was created late, and didn't need a lot of rebuild. So there's nothing wrong there. Which actually just means that for an openSUSE 11.3 user there is, as of now, no need yet to enable G:S:2.30 repository. openSUSE 11.3 was shipped with GNOME 2.30 already. The repo only will gain it's use once we go forward to 2.30.1 or 2.30.2 (volunteers? :) ) Dominique -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-gnome+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-gnome+help@opensuse.org

We have 2.30.2 there already. I see three more packages we could update now, but G:S:2.30 is already useful ;-) Vincent -- Les gens heureux ne sont pas pressés. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-gnome+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-gnome+help@opensuse.org
