This discussion is really for factory mail list, as we can't change the past. I agree with Martin that backport is common term for process of adjusting newer software version to work with older system, but I can't say that repository names are often self explanatory. IMHO, they can't be as short explanation what it means is at least one sentence long, and there is no README.txt that will explain naming conventions to people that just followed some web link. Explanation on the wiki is better then none, but you have to know that there is one. On Sunday 03 January 2010 12:20:29 Martin Schlander wrote:

Use of build service is still confusing for users. Should be very clear what is experimental and what is stable (including stable for the application developpers and not supported by openSUSE).
+1
Easily confused users, would/should normally just use the "Community Repositories" YaST module, where there's a limited set of repos with nice descriptions - and refrain from experimenting with OBS repos they don't understand.
Where to find one? I just clicked on Install Software and there is nothing about adding repositories, even lesser about Community Repositories. You have to come on idea that Configure Repositories is what you want. "Add/Remove Repositories" is 1 letter longer and tells what user can expect. "Software Repositories" is clear that I can expect to find Add, Remove, List, Update, Configure, Check, Fix, or any other operation that is applicable to repos. -- Regards Rajko, openSUSE Wiki Team: http://en.opensuse.org/Wiki_Team People of openSUSE: http://en.opensuse.org/People_of_openSUSE/About -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org
