My preference would be for something ISO 8601 date formatted, such as Factory 20140618
+1
That of course assumes that we dont get more than one build of Factory a day. If we do, maybe we could extend the versioning to include hour of build creation (no point doing minutes...unless OBS suddenly gets quantum build servers?)
eg. Factory 2014061812
I would separate the hour with a dot. That's what I do for timestamping in my own scripts and files: if I need more resolution, I just increase the decimals.
This leads me to a few questions - Will this be reflected in /etc/os-release? I think it should Does that mean people are going to be offered a new openSUSE-release package every day in Factory? I don't think that's a bad idea..it gives a good easy number for us to use when discussing issues rather than needing people to compare package versions all the time
As long as people with slow internet, like me, can still pull from somewhere that doesn't change every day, because it takes me days to download the DVD, for instance. If it is a moving target, I'm automatically out... - -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R.
