what we really miss is that:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/KarmicUpgrades#Network%20Upgrade%20for%20 Ubuntu%20Desktops%20%28Recommended%29
that thing (the perfectly works) just show the new distro version is available, but upgrade to the distro is not mandatory.
I'm not sure it's working so perfectly - at least I see a lot of complaints in a Danish forum and in the lug from users with upgraded Ubuntu systems. People who were perfectly happy with their old system - but then upgraded without any testing or second thought, because it was "pushed" on them.
And if it's done I think there should be some sort of "warning" about the magnitude and risk of the operation.
I see a number of problems reported in the forum also. In my case I upgraded without problems from 9.10 to 10.04. I think we get a similar set of reports on openSUSE upgrades also, again I've done successive successful upgrades going way back from 11.0 Milestone 1. With openSUSE I find I can easily navigate and alter the system even from the command line in a way that won't work on Ubuntu. Regards Sid. -- Sid Boyce ...
