FTP installation of factory

Does anyone have an idea, why my installation of the opensuse-factory via FTP fails both ways, when going via internet or from my local rsync mirror? When going local FTP, installation complains there are no packages groups available after choosing Gnome or KDE. When going internet the installation just hangs at "Software Auswahl" without complaining. FMF

Kerry Beagle Search Feedback

Hello, if you have installed KDE with one of the Betas you may have noticed that there is a KDE frontend for Beagle installed by default. If not, it's the small magnifier in the system tray, keyboard shortcuts Alt+Space oder F12. I would love to see more feedback than as yet how it works for you. The current version 0.06 is in Factory repository and of course on Beta 4. To see if a fault is in the Beagle backend(s) or the frontend you can compare results with the output of console beagle-query or beagle-search (Gtk+). Thanks in advance for hopefully few bug-reports. :-) Bye, Steve

Package Manager major changes for Beta4 and FACTORY Tree

We're replacing our package manager resolver library with a new version called "libzypp". This integration is more complex than estimated and therefore we decided: * to have beta4 available a day later than planned * to have an additional beta5 next week * the package manager in beta4 will only have reduced functionality We're still working on the integration of "libzypp" into our tree and hope to have both update and new installation working. Together with libzypp, we get the zmd daemon, the rug command line interface, the zen-updater, zen-remover, zen-installer packages. They all handle YUM sources and additionally Zenworks servers as installation sources. Note that I'm not sure whether YaST sources will still be supported - or only YUM sources. I'll try to figure this out now. IMPORTANT: The current factory tree contains the first of these changes and I advise to not update the yast components from it! It's my understanding, from yesterday's meeting, that some things will continue to be offered at the "online update" stage. This atheros wlan driver may well be one of them, just like the ipw2100 drivers for me. Jonathon M. How is this with the non-gpl kernel modules? Novell/SUSE will no longer provide them. So what is a user supposed to do, when he needs e.g. atheros wlan driver? Is there a howto for making a xxx-kmp.rpm? I still don't understand, what these xxx-kmp.rpms are good for.

Fonts: "fc-cache -f"

I have installed fontconfig-2.3.93.20060131-1. However, I have noticed that SuSEconfig gives this warning. It doesn't go away after running fc-cache -f. I don't know if it's a known bug. Creating cache files for Xft .FC: dircache for /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts is invalid or outdated, consider running "fc-cache -f" as root! Major bug in Beta3: Fontconfig

It might be that X11 apps just crash, which is a bug in fontconfig. A first fix in the fixed-rpm package on ftp.opensuse.org. The current packages are on ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/projects/m17n/10.1 - use both fontconfig and fonts-config. The packages in m17n are updated as soon are bugs fixed - and contain also additional optimizations. Please report bugs against them in bugzilla and help us getting fontconfig fast and usable! thanks for testing - and thanks to the fontconfig gurus for fixing!
