RE: [opensuse-factory] no non-GPL kernel modules any more :-(
It's my understanding, from yesterday's meeting, that some things will continue to be offered at the "online update" stage. This atheros wlan driver may well be one of them, just like the ipw2100 drivers for me. Jonathon M. Novell/SUSE will no longer provide them. So what is a user supposed to do, when he needs e.g. atheros wlan driver? Is there a howto for making a xxx-kmp.rpm? I still don't understand, what these xxx-kmp.rpms are good for. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory-unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory-help@opensuse.org

The ipw2100 drivers are pure GPL and use firmware which is no problem. The atheros one contains a non-gpl module and we will not ship that, Andreas -- Andreas Jaeger, aj@suse.de, http://www.suse.de/~aj/ SUSE Linux Products GmbH, Maxfeldstr. 5, 90409 Nürnberg, Germany GPG fingerprint = 93A3 365E CE47 B889 DF7F FED1 389A 563C C272 A126
Dang. Well, let's hope it can be grabbed from the manufacturer's site then. --jmr -----Original Message----- From: Andreas Jaeger [mailto:aj@suse.de] Sent: Wed 2/8/2006 2:05 PM To: opensuse-factory@opensuse.org Cc: Subject: Re: [opensuse-factory] no non-GPL kernel modules any more :-(
