missing packages

Hi, I'm missing certain packages in beta3, is that intentional? At the moment, it's - cyrus-imapd - gkrellm - eric3 - ksteak Hopefully, they will find there way into final, or should I be worried? Pete

Can't Install SUSE 10.1_b3 on Vmware (host OS is SUSE 10.0)

Hello all I have tried to install SUSE 10.1 b3 three times under Vmware (VmwareWorkstation-5.5.1-19175) but the install process always gets stuck at the last second to last screen : “Hardware Configuration / Use the following configuration / Analyzing your system”. Regardless of the length of time I leave the install process running, things have just ground to a halt – there's 0 CPU activity :( I posted a photo at “http://perso.wanadoo.fr/j.pearson/Can't_Install_10.1_b3.png” Vmware runs fine on my system. SUSE 10.1_b2 (and other OS) installed and ran fine. For info host OS : SUSE 10 (Linux linux 2.6.13-15.7-smp #1 SMP Tue Nov 29 14:32:29 UTC 2005 i686 athlon i386 GNU/Linux). What exactly has changed between SUSE 10.1_b2 and SUSE 10.1_b3 which could explain this? Any help or comments would be appreciated. TIA James

installation hangs after partition selection

I've been unable to install either beta 2 or beta 3 (on several machines) because the installer hangs after I select partitions. There have been no comments on the issue page, and I raised it to blocker/P2 after beta 3. Does this relate to other known issues? Reiser4 dropped?

According to https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=140935 reiser4 has been dropped for 10.1. I find it too thin and difficult to read. What's your opinion? Would it be better if the font were bold by default? I have a 17" LCD 1280x1024

Virtual beta testing

Suppose one has access to a computer resonably well endowed in the CPU and disk departments, running SUSE 10.0. By far most of the beta testing could be done inside something like vmware. However, vmware is out of rea$$ of the average home user. What are the options? Xen, qemu, seperate disk partition to install into, ...? Can someone who has played with Xen, qemu, etc give a quick rundown for this purpose? Given a limited bandwidth which would make it at least 2 days to download all the selected packages, the above ability of doing this in some container running on a standard desktop box in the background would be a prerequisite. This would save having to download all the CDs in advance (and therefore a lot of unused volume). Is it possible to burn the downloaded used packages to DVD to test a non-virtual installation as well? ncurses

Hi, I just had read reports on the brokenness of ncurses in SuSE Linux 9.3. Looking it up for 10.0, I found that the ncurses library is 5.4 while 5.5 seems current. I wanted to look it up for 10.1beta, but couldn't find how to find out the included versions from the opensuse.org website. Thomas E.
