As it is, it seems to bring more problems than it fixes: 1. Looking at /usr/share/update-desktop-files/packages-*, lists are outdated. For example: 90% of GNOME multimedia stuff is missing Several packages were dropped or renamed (e. g. gnomemeeting) Many packages in the list are libraries only 2. It does not cause adding of "Requires: CheckHardware" to affected packages. 3. CheckHardware is your work. I have reviewed it, and it seems to have a potential to work nearly automatically. But automatic check has a problem: It claims "Program needs sound" for all GNOME applications. That is why update-desktop-files contains static list of packages. This list is deeply outdated and has only a few matches over the whole distro. So I see two possible fixes: - Completely drop CheckHardware support - Update automatic checks to be up-to-date again. Notes to comment #2: 2. I see no way how to do it automatically. But we may add proper Requires to desktop base (e. g. shared-mime-info) to ensure, that CheckHardware is installed. 3.
