Stefan. CheckHardware is your work.
I have reviewed it, and it seems to have a potential to work nearly
automatically.
But automatic check has a problem: It claims "Program needs sound" for all
GNOME applications.
That is why update-desktop-files contains static list of packages. This list is
deeply outdated and has only a few matches over the whole distro.
So I see two possible fixes:
- Completely drop CheckHardware support
- Update automatic checks to be up-to-date again.
Notes to comment #2:
2. I see no way how to do it automatically. But we may add proper Requires to
desktop base (e. g. shared-mime-info) to ensure, that CheckHardware is
installed.
3. We need more independent frontends, at least GTK+ and Qt, or use generic
scripting tool (xmessage, zenity, kmessage(?)).
