I removed it from all other subpackages, so maybe it was an oversight that it is still there for -devel. In order to not break future updates, you need to make the old package names either uninstallable, or make it require always the latest version of the new packages. I guess I need a new virtual capability for that, which doesn't interfere with the implicit provides of the postgresql-devel dummy package: %package -n %pgname-devel Provides: postgresql-devel-exclusive = %version Conflicts: postgresql-devel-exclusive != %version With Conflicts on other versions rather than Obsoletes on smaller versions, users have choice what version of PostgreSQL they want to build against (more important for server extensions than for client code).
