This is characterized by the revision number being loaded as 0xff instead of 0x02. ethtool gives the link as 1000Mb/sec, when the problem occurs, instead of 100Mb/s when connected to the router. I have had this problem from new with MSI MS-7507 V1.0 Intel 945GC / ICH7 chipset, Realtek RTL8111C and 64 bit Celeron dual core running 11.0 32 bit retail but the problem has occured since alpha. Compiling the r8169 driver into the kernel makes the problem disappear 99% of the time but I have noticed that ejecting and loading a dvd during boot causes the problem to appear. If the driver is not compiled into the kernel the problem occurs on most boots and disconnecting the lan cable on boot and then reconnecting helps. Booting with pci=nomsi makes no difference. MSI do not supply raw bios files, I can only use their live update utility for windows. I HAVE TO COMPILE THE DRIVER INTO THE SUSE KERNEL OR MY NETWORK DOES NOT WORK PROPERLY. The only line changed in .config is CONFIG_R8169=y which causes the driver to be in the kernel and not loaded as a module. If it was loaded as a module I would not have network support. Does suse not support their own kernels? I have updated my bios and it has not solved the problem. Windows XP does not have a problem with my nic. I swtched to the onboard nic and have tried a few warm reboots and it worked every time. I will try my old 11.0 kernel next with the pci card in place to check but it doesn't look like the new kernel cures the problem. I will also try changing interrupts as the realtek 8139 pci card had interrupt issues with XP and would only work with irq 11 ( see https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=412823#c2 ). So this could be an ACPI issue or something with the BIOS. You could try to check the BIOS with the 'Firmware Test' we have in our boot menu on the installation disks, look for any informations, maybe uninitialized items and if there any, report it to the manufacturer, you should also look, if there is some newer BIOS version for your board. A other option/workaround could be to boot with pci=noacpi.
