[Bug 738586] New: Suspend to disk: Resume fails if bluetooth / wireless enabled
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=738586 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=738586#c0 Summary: Suspend to disk: Resume fails if bluetooth / wireless enabled Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.1 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: SuSE Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel AssignedTo: kernel-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: vbargsten@freenet.de QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- Created an attachment (id=468953) --> (http://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=468953) Output from dmesg User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:9.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/9.0 Resume from suspend to disk fails if I did not disable bluetooth / wireless via function key. The resume hangs, showing text (from before suspend/tty7 afaik). I am using 3.1.0-1.2-default / openSuse 12.1. Before update I used opensuse 11.4 with kernel up to 3.0.7, bluetooth / radio was definitely a problem. I got used to disabling it via function key before suspending, which makes a successful resume much more likely. Afaik, the function key removes the bluetooth device from usb, the wifi device (seems to be pci-ex) just has no signal. I tested only a few times so far with 3.1.0. I could not resume from disk with enabled bluetooth / radio, from RAM it seems to work. System and swap partitions are encrypted (luks). Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Suspend to disk from KDE with bluetooth / wireless enabled 2. Switch device on, resume Actual Results: Resume hangs, showing text (from before suspend afaik) Expected Results: Resume to KDE session, as with disabled bluetooth / wireless -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Have you tried to leave the wireless enabled before the suspend? The function key enables / disables both, bluetooth and wireless lan. I could try to unload the bluetooth module and keep the wireless lan enabled.
What machine is this? Fujitsu Lifebook A530
Also, does it matter whether or not there is a suspend-resume (suspend-to-RAM) cycle before hibernation? I will test this in detail. I know that after reboot this problem exists and also after several suspend / resumes if I forgot to disable bluetooth / wireless then (kernel 11.4 standard to stable 3.0.7).
I have to add that it is not clear in which state the system is after a non-successful resume. Now I got back to KDE, but with oops messages. The system is not that stable then. I could capture dmesg output for this case, see attached file. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Please try to do that.
