hello there, i just had some trouble reaching some remote 10.3 box tonight.
it has also been undergoing updates/patches and i was thinking that when it
didnt came back up after reboot it was this bug.
maybe its related. at the physical box itself in the console the bootup process
(init scripts) were stalled with some errors regarding network.
apparently (box has 4 pci nics) some pci network cards got renamed in
random/crazy ways. all of a sudden there was no eth2, but some eth1_rename
(pending?) and such. thus the box wasnt reachable from the inet and such.
this was a clean 10.3 just setup recently some weeks ago, nothing fancy and all
the latest (except for some small patch and the latest kernel update) patches
applied.
so after todays kernel update it never came back up corrently.
strangely enough i didnt really touch the box at first, although i wanted to
actually test acpi=off after this error to see if with this setting the pci
nics would come back up normally but i first decided to see if it was booting
again with this renaming/network failure.
oddly it came back up online this time normally as before this kernel update.
so now i cannot tell if this was a coincidence or a rare bug/behaviour or if i
might still run into this network renaming errors. and if this is related to
todays kernel update or if this bug is present in all 10.3 kernels or how i can
figure this out.
i have saved the boot.omsg with the errorneous renaming logentries.
any more hints needed? do we need to file a separate bugreport from this?
