People are aware of the issue but seem to think it's not worth fixing as "only
upgrading from media is supported".
I disagree, as it will most probably give a lot of issues to a lot of people
who will ask themselves why people are assuming no one needs hot upgrading (not
uncommon at all, e.g. remote hosted servers).
There is a known workaround, but it has to be documented, and we all know it
isn't easy to spread information like that. If the situation remains as it is
now (= no fix/automated workaround in zypper), this means we have to take great
care of publishing the manual workaround (upgrade the rpm package to 11.0's
first before upgrading all the other packages to 11.0) as widely as possible,
including in 11.0 release announcements.
Hiding behind the "only cold upgrade is supported" mantra means ignoring the
user base. If it is very complex and expensive (in terms of time and human
resources) to implement it, OK, that's an acceptable reason not do it. But just
saying "it isn't supported"... isn't. At least IMHO ;)
As the current situation could cause quite a lot of trouble, I took the liberty
of raising the severity from "normal" to "critical".
