After I cleaned the activated extensions key in dconf (to remove the alternate status menu that isn't installed any more but was still in dconf...) the extensions would remain activated on login and boot, but they still disappear on unlock. restarting the shell brings them back (ALT+F2, r) Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. leave screen inactive or lock screen 2. unlock screen 3.
