A few more details may help with this, now that I start looking for the
requested data.
First, I'm running virt-manager as my non-root user. When I connect to the
system (after starting libvirtd using `sudo /etc/init.d/libvirtd start`) I am
prompted for the root password when I enter and then things seem fine
(definitely running as root then, based on other files modified in that mode).
The requested virt-manager.log was found in my user's home directory. The
most-relevant part appears below. The time jump is from about the time that
the VM reboot happened:

Is there a reason I should need to start virt-manager as root rather than
connecting to the system and getting prompted for root's credentials? I'm sure
XP can work in this setup since I know people who have done it, but all of them
create via the Command Line or some other utility.
