Same Problem during Installation of 11.2-KDE4 on older Notebook ECS-532 with
Graphics XGI-Volari-XP5, which worked fine in 11.1-Gnome.
I have read about many People experiencing the Black-Screen Problem with
Opensuse-11.2 on Notebooks.
Near completion, System reboots. Observing with Ctrl+Alt+F2: .. "Starting HAL
daemon". After that, my screen turns white, then blurring to black and staying
Black-Screen. Neither Ctrl+Alt+F2, nor Ctrl+Alt+Del work. The Keyboard seems
locked, but i am not shure. Pressing the Power-Button shortly: results in
Hard-Disk-Activity for 2 seconds, then nothing. System may be working, but for
the User it is like a System-Crash since he can only power-off.
Booting with Parameter "init 3" does not work.
---
Work-around:
------------
* Shutdown Power
* Attach external Monitor to VGA
* Boot Notebook with installed System
* When the white/black Screen occurs, try repeatedly to press Ctrl+Alt+F2 until
you see a small #> in the left upper Corner (Command-Shell)
* input:> init 3
* When Runlevel-3 ist reached, login as root with Password (maybe you have to
change the Console with Ctrl+Alt+F3)
* input:> sax2 -a
* input:> init 5
* When Runlevel-5 ist reached, press ENTER
* input:> shutdown -h now
* When Power=off: Detach external Monitor.
* At next System-Boot, the Screen should work normal an the Installation should
continue with the final Configuration.
