I have read about many People experiencing the Black-Screen Problem with Opensuse-11.2 on Notebooks. Near completion, System reboots. Observing with Ctrl+Alt+F2: .. "Starting HAL daemon". After that, my screen turns white, then blurring to black and staying Black-Screen. Neither Ctrl+Alt+F2, nor Ctrl+Alt+Del work. The Keyboard seems locked, but i am not shure. Pressing the Power-Button shortly: results in Hard-Disk-Activity for 2 seconds, then nothing. System may be working, but for the User it is like a System-Crash since he can only power-off. For Example: When i start Knoppix on my Notebook whithout Parameters, i get a Black-Screen. Same Problem during Installation of 11.2-KDE4 on older Notebook ECS-532 with Graphics XGI-Volari-XP5, which worked fine in 11.1-Gnome. This Notebook also installed and worked fine with Opensuse 10.3.

When X tries to start, I get a black screen and the keyboard is locked (in the sense that ctrl-alt-f1, ctrl-alt-del do nothing and the numlock light doesn't come on). Unplug the VGA cable. 2. Install using only the DVI connection. 3. Add the Nvidia repository (download.nvidia.com/opensuse/11.2). See nvidia.com for the details. 4. Install the Nvidia kernel packages. 5. Plug the VGA cable back in. 6. Reboot. 7. Hi, I have the same problem with the black screen. Graphic card Intel 82945G. Monitor Samsung Syncmaster 2343. I tried the intel driver for the graphic card, as well as the vesa driver, also changed the monitor. No big difference. In the beginning I could only boot into runlevel S. After creating a xorg.conf with sax2, things improved a little so that I can now boot into runlevel3. If I start the graphical system however, I now get a rotating white dot in the middle of the black screen. The keyboard doesn't work. But the system is running. I can watch it via the LAN from my laptop. /var/log/messages says: kdm[1274]: X server for display:0 terminated unexpectedly. kdm_greet[25907]: Cannot read from core kdm: 0[261671]: Abnormal termination of greeter for display: 0, code 1, signal 0 Sorry if I messup the bugreport, please tell me where to put this instead.
