You've not fully understand what I've tried to explain:
There is no DNS name set at all by /etc/init.d/boot.localnet
only the NIS/YP domainname is set. In other word the program
domainname is for NIS/YP only (set and get)
whereas
dnsdomainname is for DNS only (get only == hostname --fqdn)
.. normaly there is no need to set dnsdomainname for a network
client as this will be deliverd by the DNS server.
This is how it is described in the manual page for domainname
NAME
hostname - show or set the system's host name
domainname - show or set the system's NIS/YP domain name
dnsdomainname - show the system's DNS domain name
nodename - show or set the system's DECnet node name
IMHO this bug is invalid
