Yes, running "cat /proc/asound/card0/codec#*" is enough to produce that pop
noise.
Just for testing, I have installed Fedora 9 which also uses kernel 2.6.25. And
the pop noise does not occur (either when on AC or on battery). I have even
tried direct ALSA access and... no popping at all!
ALso, to check if powersaved was enabling anything that could be interfering
with the sound, I have disabled this service and rebooted. The problem
remained... :-(
