I dual-boot to Windows only rarely. Maybe once in six months. Windows is not
updating the time for me. In fact, it usually screws up the time the next time
I boot after a daylight savings change, and I have to fix it then. I can live
with this, however.
You could simply make the pop-up say that local time is not recommended, as it
may not reliably update with time-zone and daylight savings changes. There is
no need to detect whether Windows is installed, you can say that anyway. It's a
useful piece of information.
I am concerned that there once was a feature to automatically update the CMOS
time, and it has been disabled because somebody thinks Windows will do the
switch for me. Possibly it only updates if it was running during the switch,
since the next CMOS update will use the new mapping from UTC.
It is my choice to use local time and I accept the losses that may occur if my
system time is out by an hour between booting and NTP sync. There is every
chance that one or two of my system log files will have the wrong time-stamp.
Seriously, when did SUSE become so fragile?
