https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=681196 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=681196#c0 Summary: ATA HDIO_GET_IDENTITY inqueries should not be send to SCSI devices (pass-through) Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.4 Version: RC 2 Platform: All OS/Version: openSUSE 11.3 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel AssignedTo: kernel-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: werner@novell.com QAContact: qa@suse.de CC: hare@novell.com, kasievers@novell.com, jbottomley@novell.com Depends on: 679277 Found By: Development Blocker: --- It is not a good idea to root the ATA HDIO_GET_IDENTITY to as SCSI 2 device, like CDROMs or CD-writes. Compare this with the rule at line 31ff in /lib/udev/rules.d/60-persistent-storage.rules For udev it is not possible to identify such devices with the vendor string as on both SCSI and ATAPI devices the reported vendor is not "ATA" but the real hardware/firmware vendor. The type of both SCSI and ATAPI devices is "5". IMHO the ata_id command should become a EPROTONOSUPPORT or EPFNOSUPPORT from the kernel. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
