https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=435093 Summary: Waiting for /dev/disk/by-id error in boot sequence Product: openSUSE 11.1 Version: Beta 2 Platform: i586 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Bootloader AssignedTo: jsrain@novell.com ReportedBy: gfarrell@netspeed.com.au QAContact: jsrain@novell.com Found By: Beta-Customer Problem occurs in boot; sequence stops with the following message: 'Waiting for /dev/disk/by-id/scsi-1ATA_WDC_WD1600BEVT-75ZCT1_WD-WXE508NK0617-part7 ...................' ie, a long wait, followed by: 'Do you want me to fall back to /dev/sda7? (Y/n) Entering 'Y' succeeds, and boot resumes successfully. These are the disk IDs reported by YaST-> System-> Partitioner: Device ID 1: scsi-SATA_WDC_WD1600BEVT-_WD-WXE508NK0617 Device ID 2: ata-WDC_WD1600BEVT-75ZCT1_WD-WXE508NK0617 This is the original entry used in /boot/grub/device.map: (hd0) /dev/disk/by-id/scsi-1ATA_WDC_WD1600BEVT-75ZCT1_WD-WXE508NK0617 This is used in the /boot/grub/menu.lst stanzas: /dev/disk/by-id/scsi-1ATA_WDC_WD1600BEVT-75ZCT1_WD-WXE508NK0617-part7 These entries make the boot error go away: a. for /boot/grub/device.map: (hd0) /dev/disk/by-id/scsi-SATA_WDC_WD1600BEVT-_WD-WXE508NK0617 b. for /boot/grub/menu.lst (when specifying drives): /dev/disk/by-id/scsi-SATA_WDC_WD1600BEVT-_WD-WXE508NK0617-part7 ie, just substituting entries in /boot/grub/device.map and /boot/grub/menu.lst with Device ID 1 from YaST. Notice the differences: a. 'SATA' instead of '1ATA', and b. '75ZCT1' was in the middle of the original entry. It seems that the original entry was arrived at by a corruption of the YaST ID 1 and ID 2 entries. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
