Hi, I have created an fully automated network ftp install using autoyast running in textmode, using Suse 8.2. I have 2 topics which perhaps someone may be able to help me with.< 1) During the install there are options visble, i.e. abort, accept, even though no user intervention is required. Is there a way to disable these options, i.e. make them not visible. 2) Hardware detection, is there anyway to probe all hardware. My aim is to create a single installation which can be used on 20 different types of machine. This works quite well on Redhat & kickstart but autoyast seems to want to know what hardware I have. The 3 problem areas are (probably no suprise) network cards (especially pcmcia) X sound Is there anyway to have them autodetected and autoconfigured, without having to first login to KDE. -- trax <traxtopel(a)HotPOP.com>

Installation startup problems

Hi, I've been trying to setup the various things needed for a functional SuSE autoinstallation repository server, but I can't get the client to start installing. Some things work. The client gets an ip-address from the DHCP server and successfully mounts the exported install directory (with all the packages from the CDs), loads and starts the kernel (and I can see that the client has got the correct kernel command line parameters as specified in my config file "default" for pxelinux). However when the kernel has started nothing else happens. The messages in the first virtual terminal ends with: ... VFS: Mounted root (minix filesystem). Moving into tmpfs... done. ramdisk /dev/ram0 freed >>> SuSE Linux installation program v1.4 (c) 1996-2003 SuSE Linux AG <<< I would have expected some graphical installation to start, but nothing happens. The third virtual terminal (ALT-F3) tells me the client has found the network server and successfully mounted the install directory, and then ends with: ... going for automatic install mount: /var/adm/mount/boot/root: we need a loop device mount: using /dev/loop0 rmmod usb-storage starting /mounts/instsys/sbin/inst_setup yast The fourth virtual terminal (kernel messages?) says it's trying to access both floppy and cdrom (should it?), and ends with: ... Sep 7 16:01:11 (none) kernel: cdrom: open failed Sep 7 16:01:11 (none) kernel: md: Autodetecting RAID arrays Sep 7 16:01:11 (none) kernel: md: autorun ... Sep 7 16:01:11 (none) kernel: md: ... autorun DONE. It seems to me that the client understands it should do an automatic install but that perhaps it does not get hold of the control file. Boot problems with a SiS900 and floppy or PXE grub

automatic sound and network config

Hi, I'm trying to use yast2 to perform automatic installs on a wide range of pc hardware (I work for a computer recycler), and am trying to make the procedure as hands-off and automatic as possible. Ideally, I'd like to have one control file that can setup any of our machines. It looks like it's possible, but I haven't been able to figure out how to automate the sound and network card setup. I've read the available docs at http://www.suse.de/~nashif/autoinstall/82.html, and understand how to manually specify them, but didn't see an option for auto-detecting them. Hello Damien, No, I am talking about www.suse.de/~nashif/autoinstall/y2update/SLES/y2update.tar.bz2 <http://www.suse.de/~nashif/autoinstall/y2update/SLES/y2update.tar.bz2> Just put this file into the root of your install nfs directory and untar it. Then you will have a directory called linux with the y2update in it. Hi, I am using SLES 8 and this configuration is working very well. As far as I know is the autoyast of SLES8 based on Prof 8.1. Maybe you need an update for you autoyast. But it does not work: the kernel installed at the end is k_deflt ! Maybe the problem comes from the version.. I'm using SUSE 8.1 ... and not 8.2. could you juste tell me where you get the info in the DTD.. so that I could check on my version? Maybe anyone manage to load k_smp kernel with suse 8.1? Hi everyone, having my own package selection (My.sel), I want tu use k_smp kernel and not the default one (k_deflt) unfortunately, when I add k_smp in the package selection, yast warn me about a conflict with k_deflt. But k_deflt is NOT in my selection file (my.sel) , and should not be selected when I perform the installation! Is there a way of specifying I do NOT want to use k_deflt but k_smp instead? Where can I deselect it? Thanks in advance Damien.

NetInstall with Grub, Kernel does not recognize NIC

Hi, AutoYast (suse8.2) over the network with a RealTek NIC works relative well. Now we want to to the same with a "Intel 82801BD PRO/100 VE Network Adapter". It's an onboard Adapter. We successfully patched the grub sources (pci.h and config.c) for the right PCI-ID (0x103a) and modified grub.spec (--enable--eepro100) to define only this NIC. The grubs tftp load works perfect, but afterwards the kernel is not able to establish the nfs Connection which works well with the RealTeK NIC. But it is possible to choose the right driver interactivly in the ncurses environment (here the EEPRO100). The rest of the Installation runs then as it should. Question: How can I help the kernel to find the EEPRO100 module? Regards, Kurt
