Partitioning: "no space left"

Hi, I tested systematically when partitioning works and when I get "no space left": - The destination disk (8GB) contains already two logical partitions 3GB (ext2, 5 Knoppix) and 300MB (3, swap) at the beginning of the disc which should be preserved. - I definied /dev/hda in autoyast with "Nur frei verfügbaren Speicherplatz verwenden" - I define no partitions Result: "Kein freier Speicherplatz auf /dev/hda vefügbar". I think 5BG should be enough for a basic Suse Installation! BTW: It is not possible to save the click "Festplatte initialisieren". When I return to this page the check mark has gone. Is this a bug or a feature? Regards, Kurt

Can autoyast upgrade SLES7 to SLES8?

Hi, I am probing how to upgrade SLES7 to SLES8 automaticially. I found there is a "upgrade" mode in AutoYast installation guide. But it seems that it don't work. I checked autoyast source in SLES8 CD and found that autoyast don't parse "upgrade" mode. Who can tell me if autoyast support upgrade installation? If can, what should we do? I also try to use SLES8 CD to upgrade a SLES7 system manually. When enter into "installation setting" window, there are only three options: "New installation","Boot installed system" and "abort installation". But the figure 4.2 in SLES8 installation guide shows that there is another option "Update an existing system". I guessed that SLES8 can not upgrade a SLES7 system, right? HTTP installation of SLES80?

All, Is there any existing documentation on performing SuSE installs via HTTP? I've tried setting up a media repository in the same fashion as described for NFS installs and have yet to get it working. The same repository layout works beautifully when actually used via NFS. In case there is no documentation available - The HTTP installation is failing with a "Error while configuring software selections. Please try again" message dialogue. Preserving an installation

I'm looking at defining a default package selection only - i.e. establishing a sort of extra installation selection beyond 'minimal', 'graphical' etc. The aim is to leave the normal SuSE installation process for Pro 8.2 intact but to pre-set the package selection to one that will be the default loadset for a particular class of desktops (I can't go automatic as the hardware is, er, rather varied ;-). The problem is that I'm not able to identify in the AutoYAST dos how to stop AutoYast from being 'auto' - all I want is to pre-set the selected packages in the detailed package selecton of YAST and keep everything else precisely as is, i.e. manual and flexible. If someone could point out some docs or HOWTOs where this is detailed I'd be very happy, teh AutoYAST dos don't go into detail on avoiding automation ;-). Kind regards, /// P ///

How to fix / reinstall libc?

Dear list, I somehow messed with libc6 on my Suse 7.2 box. Is there any way to restore the original version that came with the distribution by some rpm command? I used rpm --verify and it is telling me that many files have changed and some are missing. So the rpm system seems to know what files *should* be around. But I could not find any option in rpm to re-install the package. Well, in fact I did not find the package file at all on my system. New .sel file

I have built a new .sel file, and included my rpm list in it. I have added the file to <addon> in the xml file. I have run create_package_descr. Yet, every install I do, I get "Could not ... add-on " (can't recall exact words at this moment). In other words, it seems to have a problem with my .sel file. boot message popup

Hi! Even though I "complained" about this before, now after my holidays, I have to enquire more in this problem, as it still persists. In our constellation, we face the problem that I have to click away a boot message popup window manually even though no interaction is requested. I get a message warning me about the boot partition lying beyond cylinder 1024, which I cannot suppress. What can I do about it? Basically, the autoinst.xml file looks like the appended text. Hi All, I am experiencing one problem with my network install. I have added 14 extra rpms, of which 13 install, except one. It gives the error. Package /suse/noarch/extraapp-1.2-7-noarch.rpm was not found on medium. Err: 11292:ERROR(Media:unable to write file) If I do a wget -c ftp://192.168.0.20/suse/noarch/extraapp-1.2-7-noarch.rpm It downloads correctly. If I check in the messages log on the server, it does not find the package but instead it does something quite weird ....
