The domain model is interesting and we should check if we can join this model with the 'sqlite cache' scheme.
They have something in common, they are databases, but one is a local cache and the other a software catalog. They dont need to store the dependencies for example.
Indeed, and that's definitely a tricky part. I mean, it would be great to also be able to store dependencies but as we won't be able to resolve them anyway, it would be useless. Resolving the dependencies would mean writing 80% of a package manager... just to display them in the browser no thanks ;) (and if it's not implemented exactly with the same algorithm as YaST2, it will differ from what will happen on the client anyway).
Things we can adopt: - caching screenshots (or we get them on demand?) - caching tags (useful for searching)
Huh, since when do RPM packages have screenshots and tags ? ^^
We are facing the same problems of SCM designers, at some point we will need a "smart" server, for metadata.
Could you elaborate a little ? Sounds like an interesting idea.. :)
cheers
