For this we need a generic solution. Rails offers a couple of 'paginate' extensions.
SLMS uses exactly this: config.gem 'mislav-will_paginate', :version => '~> 2.3.6', :lib => 'will_paginate', :source => 'http://gems.github.com'
Easy to understand, easy to use. Example: @subscriptions = Subscription.paginate :all, :page => params[:page], :conditions => conditions, :order => order
