Nuernberg YaST team - meeting 2008.08.12

present: shaas, aschnell, ma, sh, schubi, gs, dmacvicar, tgoettlicher
minutes: tgoettlicher

Topics
------
- Features
- Azubis (Trainees)
- YaST for Redhat
- LinuxWorld Conference
- Miscellaneous

Features
--------
* almost two weeks until installation milestone

* open issues:
- multi line entries in ini files (product definition) look weird - parser for product stuff is missing, kkaempf working on it
- solver error messages should mention products -> schubi

* aschnell: snapshot is more difficult than expected
perhaps not enough time for multipath
* schubi: Investigation into a YaST webservice based on the REST-style
protocol.
The webservice server (based on Rails) communicate via the
DBUS interface of SCR (made by Ladislav and Martin) with YaST
components.
Already running interfaces:
- managing services (start, stop, reload,....)
- setting time, timezone,...
- configure NTP
Next steps:
- additional functionality: setting user, root password,
firewall and network
- integration with policykit.

* shaas: diploma thesis: cim provider is ready
package is available in shaas' buildservice home project

Trainees
-----------------
* mmaher leaves our team
* aorlovskyy joins our team on 2008-09-01

YaST for Redhat
---------------
* pathnames in scr don't fit other distributions
mapping of pathnames and filenames is needed

LinuxWorld Conference
-----------
* dmacvicar: attended LinuxWorld conference * talk about yast * positive feedback for the partitioner
* users wish a mechanism to ask the admin via email for
permission to install a package
Miscellaneous -------------
* idea: publish a list of Myth about YaST : size, handling of config files
edited by hand, etc.
