Latest radeonhd from git does not work on my Ubuntu Lucid Alpha3 (daily updated, now almost beta1). Screen remains black at GDM logon screen (I can hear the sound of login prompt).
Did Xorg work with radeonhd before you updated it with git?
Yes, the posted configuration worked like a charm on Karmic [...]

It seems that you have the NVidia proprietary driver installed on your distro. Because Xorg is using a different GLX module than the vanilla version (libglx.so should be in /usr/lib/xorg/modules and not /usr/lib/xorg/extra-modules, as is currently the case), you may run into problems with getting 2D/3D acceleration to work. I'm only guessing about this though.
Yes, I did have the nvidia drivers installed, although APT reports that /usr/lib/xorg/extra-modules/libglx.so belongs to xserver-xorg-core package: $ apt-file search libglx.so nvidia-173: /usr/lib/nvidia-173/xorg/libglx.so nvidia-173: /usr/lib/nvidia-173/xorg/libglx.so.173.14.22 nvidia-96: /usr/lib/nvidia-96/xorg/libglx.so nvidia-96: /usr/lib/nvidia-96/xorg/libglx.so.96.43.14 nvidia-current: /usr/lib/nvidia-current/xorg/libglx.so nvidia-current: /usr/lib/nvidia-current/xorg/libglx.so.195.36.08 xorg-driver-fglrx: /usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions/libglx.so xserver-xorg-core: /usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions/libglx.so xserver-xorg-core-dbg: /usr/lib/debug/usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions/libglx.so It looks like that X was loading the nvidia GL library rather the vanilla one. Once nvidia drivers have been uninstalled, it started working again.
Hope that helps,
