It is a ATI Radeon HD 4730 from Sapphire and I am one of the 5 people in europe running such a graphic card :-( Symptoms: the X-server freezes, no action on keyboard possible
(x-logfile attached)
From Xorg.0.log: [...]
(WW) RADEONHD(0): DRMCPIdle: DRM CP IDLE returned BUSY! (WW) RADEONHD(0): DRMCPIdle: DRM CP IDLE returned BUSY! [...]
Apparently it's a known issue (judging from one of the mailing list threads: http://lists.opensuse.org/radeonhd/2009-10/msg00204.html), with no fix yet. So no luck there for you.
My personal solutions: buying a new graphic card or change the distribution (life-cds knoppix or kubuntu are working)
(**) RADEONHD(0): Selected EXA 2D acceleration.
If other distros are working, it's either that they're using the radeon driver (which may or may not work) or it's turned 3D acceleration off. Try starting X with:
Option "AccelMethod" "shadowfb" or Option "AccelMethod" "none"
in your xorg.conf. You won't get 3D acceleration, but at least X may work.
(II) RADEONHD(0): Card not in database: 0x944E:0x174B:0x3261; using generic modesetting.
Is there a quick way to update the "database" ?
Cards are only added to the radeonhd driver database if there are some quirks it needs to handle before they will work correctly, so it's nothing to worry about.
