: im using kernel:
sum@sun:~$ uname -a Linux sun 2.6.31.3 #1 SMP PREEMPT Sun Oct 11 11:52:42 EEST 2009 i686 Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.80GHz GenuineIntel GNU/Linux
That's great, you already have EXA and Xv support on kernel side. Firs, the hardest step skipped ;)
here is my Xorg.0.log. Btw if you use ati or radeon driver i have 80 FPS more (190 total) but after a min my X freeze and pc need restart. So im now on radeonhd driver.
Really, don't even waste your time watching glxgears ;) Gears you see are rendered by *cpu* and FPS value means nothing.
radeon driver is also called xf86-video-ati. What you should type in xorg.conf is "radeon" (for xf86-video-ati) or "radeonhd" (for xf86-video-radeon).
What I'm worried about is lock up using radeon driver. I think radeon may be using EXA and that causes lock up. That would mean you will get lock up on radeonhd very probably as well, when you switch to EXA :/ Anyway, let's try this.
Can you also give more information about how to manual switching to EXA in 1.2.5 One last question do i need to recompile whole X server to can compile new 1.3.0 drivers ?
No, nothing like that. You can use your current X, you will probably just need to install some devel package of X (to make radeonhd compile).
(**) RADEONHD(0): Option "AccelMethod" "XAA" (**) RADEONHD(0): Selected XAA 2D acceleration.
Here we are. You told radeonhd to use XAA acceleration, which... doesn't exist for R6xx/R7xx (this means your HD 2600, which is RV630). So probably as final result you don't get any acceleration.
Please edit your /etc/X11/xorg.conf and replace XAA in AccelMethod with EXA: Option "AccelMethod" "EXA" this will work even with radeonhd 1.2.5, so no need for updating to 1.3.0.
If EXA will cause problems you can still use Option "AccelMethod" "shadowfb" but this will be generally slower than EXA. shadowfb will also work with 1.2.5 (even older).

Thx, shadowfb work fine and i have speed in console scroll and web pages. EXA cause me a problem and freeze my pc when i run startx. Ill try to upgrade my driver to 1.3.0 if this does not require external packages that is not ported in slackware 13.0 tree. Thx again.
