At first I thought this is normal with all the criticism there is about the Linux kernel and its big latencies and "non-snappy" desktop experience. I'm talking about the complete display freezes I get when there's heavy load in the background (for example emerging something big in Gentoo, like OpenOffice) that last for about 5 seconds or more. When the freeze happens, nothing moves except the mouse cursor. Everything else is frozen and I have to wait. The freezes happen even if the processes that generate the load are niced to 19. CPU load is not enough; for this to happen there has to be heavy load + multitasking + heavy disk I/O. Compiling OpenOffice or Firefox for example with -j3 (parallel build). Well, I tried Catalyst 8.11 and this stopped. No display freezes during heavy multitasking load. So there's a problem with radeonhd. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: radeonhd+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: radeonhd+help@opensuse.org
