Some PCs (including laptops) also come with a fan attached to the GPU and such device has to be handled properly. I've heard that some laptop constructors (such as Toshiba) are used to customize the reference display drivers released by ATI to include fan control and power management features before repackaging the whole thing and posting it as an update for its users.
