Thank you for the data. I guess the card should be detected correctly without any changes. Therefore maybe you can attach your log file so that we can see what went wrong.

Yes, since your system doesn't know about the RadeonHD driver it 'fixes' your config you overwriting it with a config file for VESA. You don't have to do a lot to 'fix' this. I think the following steps should ve sufficient: 1. Locate the "Device" section. Replace 'vesa' as a driver with 'radeonhd'. 2. Locate the "Screen" section(s). a. Comment out any references to "Monitor" sections. b. add your favorite resolution to the "Mode" list. After that be sure you keep a copy of the config so you can restore it when the update process has felt it needed to 'fix' it again.
