?? I do not understand the problem. What has the proxy to do with sysmbolic links - it is a ftp server issue.
I append an updated debug logfile, which is now from 1.7p6 The location of the bug is marked with 'here comes the bug' where the port 20 connection is opened by the proxy.

You do not need to enable transparent proxy if you know the destination (ftp server).

This is allready fixed in 1.7tp7. You have also to set a Listen-IP
if you are using transparent mode (what is not needed here).
