Did you try to simply
su - export DISPLAY=:0 xeyes
My normal user is "dh". Then I just do that:
# ln -sf /home/dh/.Xauthority /root/.Xauthority
...
HTH, -dnh
I think I will just switch to "lightdm". LXDE things are plagued with problems and not much maintained in openSUSE.
PS: my prompt is:
root@grusum[12]: ~ (0)# ^^^^ ^^^^^^ ^^ | | ` '#' for root, '$' for users | | | | `- last exit status (preserving "$?"[1]) user host | `- cwd `- tty/pts
It also sets the xterm title via the \007 escape (without the exit-status and the prompt).
[1] as in dh@grusum[5]: ~ (0)$ false dh@grusum[5]: ~ (1)$ echo $? 1 dh@grusum[5]: ~ (0)$ false; echo $?; 1 dh@grusum[5]: ~ (0)$
Why? What interest is knowing the tty/pts? :-? - -- Cheers, Carlos E. R.
