I believe its a GFORCE GTX 460
No idea what I had in 42.2 (it was just installed and booted once in between the upgrade from former 42.1 to 42.3) I have a full backup of the 42.1 install. If you can tell me in which file I can find the info, I can tell you :-)
in var/log/Xorg.0.log.old (a failed boot with the latest kernel) I see:
[ 76.571] (EE) NVIDIA: Failed to initialize the NVIDIA kernel module. Please see the [ 76.571] (EE) NVIDIA: system's kernel log for additional error messages and [ 76.571] (EE) NVIDIA: consult the NVIDIA README for details. [ 76.696] (EE) [drm] Failed to open DRM device for pci:0000:03:00.0: -19 [ 76.820] (EE) [drm] Failed to open DRM device for pci:0000:03:00.0: -19
Uninstall "drm-kmp-default" packages and reboot - unless you have a laptop with dual video hardware (nvidia/intel).
See release notes.

I have seen that. But drm-kmp is /not/ installed here :-(
Sure? Strange, seeing the drm messages above.
Well, then you probably need to reinstall the nvidia driver again, either the esy way or the hard way. Same as you did on the previous system.
That's what I did now: booted with the latest kernel 4.4.76-1-default waited until the graphical login should (but did not) appear switched to konsole ctrl-alt-F1 started Yast uninstalled - nvidia-gfxG04_kmp_default - nvidia_computeG04 - nvidia_glG04 - x11_video-nvidiaG04 rebooted, could login to kde plasma (I guess using nouveau) in kde used Yast to install nvidia-gfxG04_kmp_default again (which brought the other 3 packets automatically) rebooted. Here I am - and as far as I see it works. Thanks for helping me to keep heads up!! Good night.
