One thing I've noticed recently is that when I'm doing something like sending an email, the desktop goes black for several seconds, leaving only the email app visible. It also happens with other apps. Is there anyway to turn this off? It's very irritating.
tnx jk
This is not a feature. Normally that indicates that plasma does shortly crash. Often this is related to the graphics card and its driver. Do you use intel, nvidia, amd? Also multi-monitor support may(!) matter. You did set what as OpenGL? You may check if your graphics card is well capable to handle OpenGL 3.1 and set it in systems settings of KDE. You may as well for a huge number of X-error files. May be worth a bug-report in case.
The video doesn't crash. It just keeps on going, other than the several seconds of black. I have a Xeon E3-1200 Graphics Controller and only 1 monitor. I have absolutely no idea about OpenGL or where the settings for it are. Systemsettings5/Hardware/Display and Monitor/Compositor or opengl settings
